CBS.com rated him the #5 safety........SI has him rated at 8

Has very good range and ball skills and will strike fear for opposing WRs going across the middle. He may just be our Cam Chancellor.

I don't see him playing over Cyprien, so if he plays, he'd have to play FS. Otherwise he's Cyp's backup.

I don't see him playing over Cyp either but Cyp is talented enough to play both SS and FS. Loston looks like he could do the same.
How does a guy like this go undrafted? I don't get it!
Loston actually seems more suited for FS. At 5 foot 11 with the speed and toughness to be our Earl Thomas.

He has very good range for a SS, but I don't think he has the range for a single high FS.  It would be a very interesting backfield though.  Very intimidating, heavy hitting backfield.  Scary to go over the middle.

How did this guy not get drafted?

Nor do I. Glad we landed him.

No team turned his name in when it was their pick.

Cyp doesn't have the range to play FS. He's a talent, but he's much more of an in the box SS.
Loston= Cyp back-up......Loston wouldn't have the range either

I don't know, Jarius Byrd runs a 4.68 and Loston clocked a 4.65 at the combine. It wouldn't hurt to let him get some reps at the spot and see what comes to fruition. Also Telvin Smith ran a 4.52, so i don't think putting him at FS would be a bad experiment.

Good pick up.  He is a nice developmental prospect for the team.  I don't think our safeties are as bad as some are making them out to be.  Cyp is our only bona fide starting caliber safety, agreed.  With Evans, Guy and Loston we have three young developmental prospects.  Sharrod Martin and Joe Young will be given a chance to see if the can return to their former form.

Dude looks nasty

I'd have to agree. He doesn't have the fluidity of Cyp or a guy like Byrd in my eyes. He'll move Prosinski off the roster though.

Also, he very good at using his shoulder (and not his helmet) to put a hurt on guys.
So besides a big-hitter, what is his upside?

WEAKNESSES: Not a quick-twitch athlete and lacks the deep speed and hips to keep up in coverage...struggles to recover after false steps and a liability vertically...too reactionary and will struggle to finish in space...inconsistent timing and discipline - too many late and unnecessary hits...needs to improve his general awareness, often taking overaggressive angles and finding himself out of position...allergic to contact in man coverage and needs to develop a better understanding of what he can get away with...will lose track of the ball and is late to relocate - questionable instincts...violent player and will beat up his body, leading to long-term durability concerns - missed playing time each of his seasons in college, including three games in 2013...will turn 25 years old as a rookie.

must be something in the medical or background checks or something.  I wonder what made him fall so far.  glad he did though Big Grin

Injury history, plus he will be a 25 year old rookie.
Good Get!
