I read that on your own team's message board by more than a few Texans fans. They claimed that the Texans brass tried to get too cute with the trade demands and botched the whole thing. They claimed trading the #1 pick was the intention but were forced to take Clowney when they messed it up.

I love this draft!!! We didnt reach and got REAL value through the first four picks. Best draft in Texans History by far.

If I understand correctly, the Texans front office understood that Clowney was the best talent in this draft, but because he wasn't a perfect fit in Romeos defense, they where willing to trade the rights to draft him if offered an ample amount of picks to offset his value. If not, drafting him is still quite a consolation prize.
That being said, I don't believe Bridgewater was ever targeted by the Texans (just the fans really) so Minnesota didn't steal him from us. However, Garoppolo was our target and new England took him before us to force our hand in trading 4 and 5 for Mallet. Instead, O'Brien basically said FU and drafted New Englands tight end target Fiederowics. In addition, instead of trading for Mallet, O'Brien continued to say FU by trading the 4 and 5 instead to move back up for Nix, effectively leaving New England with 3 QB's in the roster, and Houston without the draft picks to trade.

Initially I thought Clowney was not a good fit in the 3-4 scheme.
Then I remembered Romeo Crennel is your defensive coordinator.
I remembered Crennel coached the Patriots when they were winning Super Bowls.
I remembered when the Patriots were winning Super Bowls, they had former college defensive linemen manning the LB spots (Bruschi, McGinest, Vrabel)/
Clowney's athleticism surpasses all of those guys.
It would be a waste to ever drop Clowney into coverage, but I think Crennel can make Clowney work in a 3-4.

Hopefully the bad Romeo Crennel who "lead" the talent stacked Chiefs to 1st overall pick will show up in Houston and ruin Clowney (it's a shame Clowney will get all the blame for it though).

I don't think they "passed on Bridgewater" as much as they tried to get too cute assuming he would drop to them at #33.
Cushing is done and was never even that good to begin with without the roids.

Reports hurt/injured since as far back as high school. True or not I certainly have no idea.
Body size and position combined with a history of underachieving in regards to training. Houston is bringing in a buddy hire (SC) with Fitzgerald which may workout for him but I just don't see it. His body movement is also unhinged in a way that will make him much more susceptible to injury when challenged by NFL competition. All those nagging issues IMHO will really begin to show early and if not he will prove to have been a great pick...we will see.

in my opinion, the Vikings definitely stole teddy. There is a reason they jumped the Texans to take him.
Texans draft was poorly executed. Still came away with decent players. Nix was a huge get. B- only because of the clowney hype. Otherwise id give it a C+.
titans played it pretty safe and smart. They need a lot of pieces and they're not trying to do too much at once. Getting mettenberger that late (when people feel like he could be a franchise guy) was what really did it for them. I'd say right now B.
the colts draft was just not very good. 5 picks doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room. Moncrief was a good get and mewhort will be at the least, solid. The other three picks are all meh. I'd give a C- based on their "first round pick" performance, t rich. If richardson and another guy they traded for, aq Shipley come in this year and have good seasons though, that draft could easily change to a B+ or A-. I do think richardson will turn it around.

If your theory is true, O'Brien took a run-blocking tight end much earlier than projected just to settle a score with his former boss. That move would make him petty and insecure, in addition to inheriting Belicheat's lack of charisma. Can't wait for him to fail like everyone else from the Belicheat tree.
