Doesn't say anything about "dead set", but he said it doesn't look likely.
Again, from a value perspective, it'd be a pretty poor pick. Especially when our run blocking is suspect as is. Ivory tore it up in NYJ last year, he comes here and can't do anything. Fournette would obviously be an upgrade but even he can only do so much behind an OL like this. I'd rather take a RB later.

Im fine with fournette or taking an RB later, im just not buying this info at all.

I'm a fan of Fournette, but I hope this is true. This draft is too deep at RB imo to take a guy top 5. Doesn't sound like any RB will be in consideration for us at the top (For the Dalvin lovers).
He doesn't know anything. Because nobody knows anything. Because they haven't made up their mind yet. There's a whole offseason evaluation to go through.
Not comfortable with Fournette at all. Between the injuries and being phased out by some of the better defenses in the country I am not completely sold on him at the next level.
I do think this could be an early smoke screen though. With Gurley and Gordon going high two years ago and Elliot on his way to having OROY of the year honors along with being in the MVP discussion the value of running back's are on the rise again.
If you think Dalvin Cook has the potential to be a Gurley, Gordon, Elliot or even Bell or David Johnson type runner. Take him and don't look back man. We have receivers. With the right coach and scheme, which we've seen under Hackett. They can make the ground game work.
I think this means Dave is very interested. If Dave feels Fournette is 100% with no injury concerns, it wouldnt ahock me one bit if we took him.
Dave tells no one what he is doing. This is BS.
Quote:If we get Coughlin there's no doubt about this.
Not sure if a guy like McDaniels, Haley, or Smith will or not. I mean of course they'll have a say in all of these things, but just how much? Not sure. Even more so if we go the coordinator like Anthony Lynn, Shanny, or Terryl Austin route.
In following Teryl Austin since 2014, my gut feeling is much like with Jim Caldwell, he would offer input with personnel especially when it comes to character being important. But like with Coach Caldwell, I think he would be comfortable with his primary focus being the coaching duties associated with being a Head Coach.
Taking Fournette will be a final FU from Caldwell on his way out.

Same here.
And he was extremely high on both Gurley and Gordon. I think it's safe to say Fornette is a better prospect than Gordon for sure.
If we are drafting a running back I would go
1. Cook
2. Fournette
3. McCaffrey
4. Foreman
Bortles/Dalvin Cook/Allen Robinson. Jags have their triplet. We are built.
Foreman, Fournette, Perine, Kamura, McNichols, Chubb or Hood. I'd be alright with any of those guys. The last 4 to a lesser extent, but I wouldn't complain as long as we upgraded the O-Line too.
DC4 or LF7 and I'll be a happy man.
Forget RBs..We need to pick OL in the first 3 rounds. Elliott would have 700 yards behind this line.

I think we'd be fine with a new LG who can run block and a new RT who can run block. I'd also like some depth as well, but those can come in the late rounds.

Nothing should ever be referred to as built around the Jags.
Quote:while you take the 1 player, give me the 2 studs. As deep as this draft is in the 2nd round you just have no faith in your scouting dept. if you dont think you can find a future building block at the top of the 2nd. I guess were we different opinions is you think Allen is night and day better than a player you could get at say the 7th pick. Give me the 7th pick and Cle 2nd
If you pick wrong at 7 and/or in the 2nd... then you just lost out on a sure fire player for the hope of getting value....
If Allen is available you take him.
You don't trade down and hope you can nab some RB who was hot in college but will be dogshit behind our oline.
And no one in the 2nd is going to balance it out to give you the value and ability of Allen.
I'm no Bama homer. But this kid is gonna beast. Better than Leonard Williams, better than the previous Bama D guys like A'Shawn Robinson and such.
He's versatile enough to play either end or the 3T.
Right off the top of my head, Yannick, Jones/Miller, Jackson, Allen
This all might be moot, since I think Allen goes #1 or #2 overall. Depending on the desperation for QBs.
