I think your problem is you are thinking too short sighted. Stop thinking that 2014 is the year, its not. 2015 is.
WHO had him with a 1-2 round grade?  Link?
I love that Caldwell is picking players expected to go higher in lower rounds unlike Gene Smith who over drafted players

Gene picks we were late WHO? we could get him later, Caldwell picks we are like dang he couldve went higher

Bryant is a great selection for the Steelers

He gets it

Thats what Mayock said about 5 minutes ago - pre ACL he was a round 1 -2 grade.
Listening to this kid on Jaguars.com, I love it.

Describes himself as a lockdown corner, thinks he can be ready this year but will do whatever they want him to do.

Mayock said he did about 3 times on live TV.
Aaron Colvin - Obviously the Jaguars felt sorry for him hurting himself during Senior Bowl practices.

Anybody have scouting report(s) stating he is a first round talent prior to blowing out his knee? Lageman said the exact same thing about Mike Sims-Walker in order to justify that damaged goods pick.

This is the same stuff Gene Smith used to do. Where's the new culture?

Strengths Weaknesses

STRENGTHS:Good height and length for the position, using his long arms well. Physical with a tough-minded approach in run support and coverage. Active vs. the run and enjoys throwing his body around. Disciplined run defender, using his long limbs to wrap. Feisty once engaged and plays aggressive near the line of scrimmage.

Fast blitzer. Good awareness to undercut routes with timing to drive on throws and break up the catch point. Proper technique and works hard to gain position with a strong competitive nature to blanket his man. Above average ballskills. Heady, confident player with a high football IQ. Above average work ethic and passion for the game of football, playing with an underdog mentality.

Good experience (36 career starts) with 28 career passes defended and position versatility, starting at cornerback and strong safety and playing both zone and man. Also a consistent performer on special teams coverage.

WEAKNESSES: Very lean body type with a narrow torso and uninspiring muscle definition. Looks like he hasn't gained any weight since his senior year in high school. Very average long speed, struggling to recover and stick with receivers vertically if they gain a step.

Needs to improve his backpedal and transition, playing with some tightness in his hips and footwork. Needs to stay balanced in his movements, allowing himself to get too upright and uncoordinated through the process. Experienced in press coverage, but needs to do a better job re-routing at the line of scrimmage. Overaggressive style and bites too easily on play fakes.

Too willing to make contact downfield and plays too hands-on in coverage, attracting holding or pass interference penalties with his grabby hands. Strong durability concerns with a history of shoulder and concussion issues and then tore his ACL (right knee) in Jan. 2014 at Senior Bowl practice.

Player Overview

A three star defensive back recruit, Colvin chose Oklahoma out of high school over Missouri and Oklahoma State. After spending most of his true freshman season as a reserve corner, he moved to strong safety where he started 12 games and recorded a career-high 84 tackles.

Colvin moved back to cornerback as a junior and started 23 games his final two seasons for the Sooners, earning All-Big 12 honors both years. He is long and physical, but his lack of strength shows on the field and he has a similar build now as he did when he arrived in Norman - maxed out or just allergic to the weight room?

Colvin lacks elite long-speed, but he plays fast with conviction and doesn't shy from taking chances. He has very good awareness and confidence to quickly read and react, using his body well, but too often he extends, grabs and plays too hands-on down the field.

It's very easy to appreciate Colvin's aggressive nature in run support and when the ball is in the air, but he needs to stay disciplined in coverage and his durability concerns are a red flag - was a borderline top-100 prospect when healthy so the ACL injury only complicates his future.

First mock I looked for from before the senior bowl was this:

http://www.chicagonow.com/daily-chicago-.../#image/33

Had him going #39

Second I looked at:

http://slumz.boxden.com/f16/pre-senior-b...t-2030689/

Had him at pick #62

Quote:One pick you don't agree with and you're losing confidence in our GM?
I guess I should wait and see, but it just didn't do anything for me right now is all I am saying.

Maybe I am biased, because I wanted RB Ka'Deem Carey or TE Arthur Lynch there for more depth at those positions.  I think we are pretty set at CB for this year with Gratz, Ball, Blackmon, Harris,McCray, Flemming.

IIRC, you guys were making the same kind of comments to me when I questioned any pick Gene Smith made.  Just saying...

His footage was impressive. Did you see that crazy INT he executed on the blitz (that NFL Network just showed) , it was like the "vacuum INT" on Tecmo Bowl Laughing

Colvin just said he was already back up to 187. The low 177 combine weight was shortly after surgery.

There goes Logan Thomas.
Logan Thomas to Arizona.  Good fit for him and good coach in Arians to bring out his potential.

This is smoke and mirrors.
Logan Thomas gone. They picked the right QB based on who's left.

Ball and Blackmon are up there in age, and Colvin is just as good or better then the rest of those CB's

meh, not upset at all...

Logan Thomas goes before your boy

I highly doubt I was.

I'll agree that after taking so many secondary players last year, it might not have been the biggest need but they clearly feel that Colvin has starter traits. Our Walter Thurmond?
