Quote:Don't recall seeing Luck do that. Pass on the party animalMaybe if he'd been selected 22nd, he might have been more willing to party like a rock star.

There was a small sense of glee in my mind as the picks rattled off, and the networks kept going back to show Manziel. By the time Dallas had passed him up, the guy was clearly not a happy camper. When Cleveland finally stepped in and drafted him, I think the NFL Network decided the draft was over. Their wall-to-wall coverage of Manziel was now over.
Meanwhile, the top QB taken in the draft at #3 left Radio City and went to dinner with his family before hitting the sack so he could be in Jacksonville first thing the next morning. We haven't seen any TMZ pictures of his exploits.
I get the feeling Manziel is going to crash and burn in the NFL. Too much time focused on being a rock star, and not enough on being the best at his position.
Quote:Not enough time spent on being the best at his position? C'mon, you don't usually buy into this silliness. Evereything I've read indicates that Manziel works very hard at being the best he can.
Should Johnny have been studying some playbook in the green room? Did Blake go to church before his presser? I though we were done with the Gene Smith Good Guy seal of approval.
I hope Manziel is successful. The NFL needs personalities. This is an entertainment business by the way. Johnny Football is good for the league, just as Joe Namath and others are. It won't bother me if he makes it. As long as he doesn't play particularly well against the Jaguars.
I hope (a lot) that Bortles is the real deal, but it looks like he may be pretty boring in the media sense. I'll take it.

I didn't find Bortles to be boring. I just get the sense when he's in front of a camera that he's a guy who recognizes his situation, and is humbled by the opportunity. Meanwhile, Johnny Manziel, who supposedly is trying to distance himself from the "Johnny Football" frat boy image walked on stage doing the money signs, and partied it up after getting drafted. I know which guy I'll take.

Quote:Ha! You clearly didn't read the leaked scouting report the Pats had one him. He showed up to a grand total of 4 out of 23 workouts and was said to only have watched film once in his entire collegiate career. Won't be as fun when you don't have one of the best WR's in the country and dominant tackles blocking for you.
Quote:If those scouting reports are even legit, it doesn't paint a flattering picture.
I tend to doubt he only watched film once in his collegiate career. No coach would allow that to happen.
Still, when I see Manziel, I see a kid who has the talent to be an electric player in the league, but only because of his improvisational skills. When you put him in a box and force him to work within a system, he's not nearly the player, and eventually, every gimmick player in the NFL has to conform to a more prototypical role, especially at that position. I don't think he's got the gumption to put the time in to really hone his skills. The kid likes to have his fun. That could certainly change as he matures...if he matures. But, until then, highly suspect.

Doesn't study the game, said to know about 60% of the offense in '12, never watches film; one source said only time he watched film during '12 was before ALUN.

Quote:Pretty much my thoughts. It would be funny to see how the board would try and spin it if he went to Jacksonville.
Quote:You know, Manziel doesn't strike me as a Gus Bradley type of player.
Quote:He did strike me as a Vince Young type player who likes to party. Vince should have seen his cut coming when he wasn't invited to party with Johnny.
Quote:Vince is broke (and a Longhorn)...Johnny didn't want to have to cover him!!
