I now feel pretty confident that Caldwell said Blackmon wouldn't play this year as a way to create the illusion that they would go Watkins. I believe it will be closer to coach Fisch's prediction of 8 games rather than the full season.

I also got that feeling when we took Bortles.

What smokescreen?

The elaborate Bortles smokescreen, expertly crafted by Caldwell.
I don't know about that. I suppose it's possible, but to what end? A trade? To assure nobody would trade up to grab Bortles?

The end was to convince teams that we had a huge need at WR and thus would look to Watkins at #3
Orrrr he was just being honest and didn't intend to make a smokescreen? So he created a smokescreen without making a smokescreen? Maybe he made a smokescreen using a smokescreen without the intention of creating a smokescreen.

Me confused

Still have a need at WR but that may change here in alittle over 4 hours

Pretty obvious that he created multiple smokescreens throughout the pre-draft process when he said that Bortles had been the guy since LAST SEASON.

....I do not think it means what you think it means. Caldwell did his due diligence on all the players that would be available and didn't tip his hand.

That's not a smokescreen. It's just round one of the draft for a competent GM.

Again, what smokescreen?

Caldwell's superpower is creating smokescreens in our mind.

this is mind bottling, like my mind, its in a bottle.

Jay Glazier said something about the most hyped QB in the draft = Calldwell is smokescreening ????

I don't see it , man. Caldwell kept his highest rated QB on the down low, but there's absolutely zero indication of a smokescreen. You are merely speculating that he had anything to do with the typical rumors that happen in the weeks preceding the drfaft.

We can only hope. Having Blackmon back would be great.

But I doubt that was just a smokescreen.

Caldwell was definitely smoke screening. Mayock told a story of approaching the Jags war room and accidentally overhearing the Jags braintrust saying 'So we agree it's going to be Manziel' Smile

mayok also said right before the pick that if it wasn't Mack it was going to be Bortles. The breadcrumbs were there people just chose to ignore them

He was obviously smoke-screening for a long, long, long time. They knew he would be the guy DURING THE SEASON.

We talked about draft process — and how some GMs probably hype up some QBs and go quiet on others. Bortles perfect example of a smokescreen.

Caldwell said he’s since heard from several GMs and coaches saying they had Bordles at top of QB board, which brings up interesting points.
