Quote:But from what I understand, we don't plan on throwing Bortles into the fire from the get go?....Isn't that accurate?

That is the stated plan.

Hopefully they are able to stick to it.

If there is any chance of ruining him, it'll be throwing him in before he is ready...and without help from the OL and receivers.

My question is what if Henne gets hurt early?

I'm wondering if the Jaguars should sign another veteran QB to avoid the temptation of throwing Bortles in too soon.

Dave and Gus tell you what they are gonna do and they do it .

They were still speaking semi-highly about Gabbert this offseason and then dealt him weeks later for a pick.

Again, I'll believe it when I see it. It's difficult to sit your #3 pick for an entire season when your current QB is terrible.
Fair questions, especially since we could have landed Watkins and traded up for Teddy.

I'm hoping this isn't the only QB we draft.

And Caldwell rightly so will be judged on that as those careers go on, compared to what we have.

Goes with the territory.
Kurt had some pretty poor analysis. In fact, both of the blowhard analysts seemed to miss the point, the lady host had the best, almost defiant, statement:

"Well, you gotta start somewhere."

Bortles will define him in the same way Gabbert defined Gene Smith.

Well, that's the advantage of taking Bortles at 3.

You avoid having to hope Bridgewater falls to a place you can trade for him, then hope you can agree to a deal to get him, then suffer the loss of the picks.

Now you can argue that giving up what Minnesota did to get Bridgewater (the 40th pick and a 5th rounder) was reasonable for Jacksonville.  Absent trading down, keeping the picks this year had to be a priority for a team with so many holes.

I kinda hope that too.  The only problem with two rookie QBs at this point is that if Henne is out due to injury, you are throwing an unprepared rookie in behind a depleted offense either way.
I thought it was all about competition? If Bortles beats out Henne, which shouldn't be difficult, he should be starting. Henne is the starter til Bortles wins the job. Not sure I see the point in sitting him just to sit him.
There are two things we have now, that we didn't have with Gabbert.

#1. A 2nd round pick.

and

#2. A Coach who's not on the hot seat, trying to save his career by throwing a rookie QB into the fire.

That price is pennies to give up for a franchise QB.
Hell be setting. Why does it matter.

Quote:both he and Evans are morons if they had actually listened to Gene's presser, they would have know that Gabbert is gonna sit for a year. idiotic reporters spewing their incorrect assesments. they both think he is starting day 1 this year.

Fixed that for you.

True but Jimmy Johnson did it. (in Dallas)

plus, Murray is a 4 year player in college....might be ready quicker than Bortles.

I will be happy if Bortles is only inserted into the starting lineup on a conservative basis.

He's a junior. He probably needs more seasoning. Let him sit a little bit and develop via practice, unlike what we did with Gabbert.

<p class="">Caldwell takes shot at former Jaguars regime, jokes there's no chance they throw Bortles in Week 3 like what happened w/ Gabbert in 2011

Why don you try and do somthing smart and watch Daves and Guses Presser then you might have a clue.

thats what i said a while ago... U put ur head on the chopping block taking a qb in the first...im assuming he has done his hw... Ill obviously reserve judgement till i seethe guy move the ball in the nfl and win games... But i like what caldwell has done so far, we shall see how this all plays out but as of now, i like it.
