JungleCat thinks it possible. It's not. Yes, even a punter could be the number 1 pick, but it wont happen.
I think you need to introduce the term 'probable' into your vocabulary. Also, you may want to think about cutting back on hyperbole and absolute statements.

You made Bryan Anger sad..

He isn't going #1. That's a certainty.

Please let the Texans take him #1! That'd be amazing!

It won't happen.

Quote:Geno Smith was told he'd be drafted in the first round last year.Didn't Geno wind up firing his agent because he wasn't drafted first overall?
Players are told a lot of things.
Quote:Thats a pretty wide range. No it's not. 16-35, are you kidding? Do you know how many guys come into the draft being told that they're somewhere between 2nd and 4th-round stock, or 5th-7th?
Quote:The fact that he wound up being a 1st round pick still amazes me.Teblow was drafted by a coach who, in retrospect, shared one fatal flaw with Gene Smith--he had to be the smartest guy in the room, and he had to feel like it, so he was prone to reaching on mediocre talent just to prove everyone wrong.
Quote:Please let the Texans take him #1! That'd be amazing!Indeed. Bob McNair might just fire the entire new regime on the spot.

Since when do "NFL executives" tell players where they'll be drafted?
Certainly not "NFL executives" who have a say in a team's drafting.

I'd be surprised if a team exec would fly a guy in, have dinner with him, work him out and have him sit down with coaches without telling said player where he's thinking of taking him. Doesn't mean that the GM is telling the truth. Could be (and likely is) that the GM who told McCarron he'd be going top-20 is hoping that McCarron spreads that info around and gets some sap of a GM to take him higher or trade up for him, pushing someone else down the board.

So you think someone like David Caldwell would sit McCarron down and lie to him?

Guys, I guess some of you don't realize this, but the NFL provides a service by which they tell prospects where they'd be expected to be drafted. It's not a GM telling them this, it's NFL personnel. I'm not sure how the NFL personnel come to these figures, but it's probably not someone like Caldwell telling someone "I think you're worth taking in the late first round."

I think McCarron specifically said he heard this during interviews during visits

Either way he looks like a Matt Schaub type to me. Can manage a team with elite talent well enough but will never make a team better.

16-35 is perfect. Jags don't draft within those picks unless they trade into one of those slots. Some one else can have him

That doesn't apply to McCarron. What you are talking about applies to underclassmen who are thinking about coming out for the draft.
And I'm glad to see that Badger thinks so highly of the Jaguars GM. Somehow I think that's what Badger would do, not Caldwell.

Quote:Until the pick is made, anyone who is eligible for the draft has the potential to be the first pick. Even McCarron. Until the card is submitted and it's announced by the commissioner, there's no real way to know anything. Houston could go off the reservation completely if they wanted to. Nobody is saying McCarron will be the first pick, so relax.
So Bridgewater could be the first pick off the board?
