The NFL certainly didn't do us any favors with our first 4 games in 2014. Eagles-Redskins-Colts-Chargers.

I heard it said well today on Jax radio, that the Eagles and the Redskins must be, and i quote 'licking their chops' at the schedule. Thinking "good, we'll at least have an early win in the season when good old Jaguars led by Chad Henne come to town", lol. And y'know what, they kind of got a point. And sadly, there's very little we can do at this point, even in the draft regarding linemen, WRs, RBs, etc, that will change that.

I just can't help but imagine though, the dramatic change in rhetoric around the whole nation if Jacksonville actually drafted Johnny. You just know Chip Kelly, a Manziel-fan, would certainly take notice. The Redskins game, Manziel vs RG3 would probably be the most watched/talked about game of the week. Colts and Chargers would become outings we might actually have a chance in. That Texans game later in the year would become one of the best rivalry games of the season, with the Texas boy coming back to avenge the hometown team that passed on him. Hell, when Manziel and his Jaguars meet Jerry and his Cowboys over in London, I can't even imagine the hype and hoopla. Maybe one of the biggest games of the entire NFL year.

This is the kind of stuff that gets me excited as a Jags fan.

Sorry for the rant, it just pisses me off even to think of Eagles fans, or colts fans sitting back and chuckling, here comes an easy win. It pisses me off that the schedule is released, and many of us(rightly so) are already bracing for another 4-to-6 win season. I really hope things change this year, our fanbase deserves it. I know we'd certainly get the NFL world's attention if we drafted Manziel. There'd be no looking past us then. We sure as hell wouldn't be the biggest "Week One Underdog" anymore. This is the hope and change I want/believe in.

anyways, rant over [Image: d883a96ef3290eb940dcf817cd728fc6-d5v0o0l.png] make of it what you will.....

Not really.  The perspective won't change until we start winning.

That said, I had a dream that we drafted Manziel last night.  My feelings were mixed, just as I imagine they would be if they do draft him.

This is assuming Manziel, if drafted by the team, actually makes the field as a rookie.  That wouldn't be a given for any of the rookies.

Imagine the coverage when Manziel scores the winning TD in the home opener and proceeds to walk across the new pools.

I understand what you're saying, but i think like for example, that the "Week One Underdog" label would change in many people's minds. Everyone just assumes that we'll be the worst or one of the worst teams again(and perhaps they are justified on some level to assume it). But that's what I mean by perspective. Eagles-Jaguars goes from being a wash, to perhaps one of the most must-watch, shoot-out-esque games of the first week(even before we've run out onto the field).

Are you 12 years old or something?

Henne will be the starter in Philly.  Book it now.  There won't be a shootout in Philly opening weekend.
I'll definitely take the bet with you FBT Smile That is of course IF we draft Johnny at 3.

At Gus' old team, Russell Wilson was picked with the 75th pick, and started the first game. IMO, only way Manziel doesn't start a first game in the NFL next season is if he's taken late in the first round by say Cowboys, Patriots, etc. If he's taken by Jags, Raiders, Bucs, Texans, etc, he'll start first day.

nope, just a life-long, season-ticket holding fan who knows this franchise has seen much better days.

Of course not.

Let's assume we draft Manziel and we hit on the pick.

Manziel will still need a rookie WR opposite Shorts and at least two rookie OLs to produce at an acceptable level for him to win one of those shootouts.

Manziel will operate behind a completely reconstructed OL, none of which has started an entire season in our blocking scheme, three of whom will likely have no experience whatsoever in the offense (unless you are penciling in Rackley at RG and Brewster at C on opening day, in which case we're still in trouble along the OL.

Manziel will not chenge the perception going into those early season games.

We can disagree, but i do value your opinion.

I do think tho that Manziel's a very special player. Don't forget, just a few years back, RG3 beat the Saints his first game of his rookie year. Throwing for well over 300 yards and a couple of carries too. I personally think Manziel's better than RG3.

Cant wait
Manziel, the Michael Jordan of Football, is the key to the Jaguars success.

I'm confident that even if we did draft Manziel, and even if he was the opening day starter, what we'd see on the field to open the season would be pretty much the exact opposite of a shoot out.

He's not going to change the perception of this team early in the season because he'll still be learning the job.  The factors you've listed will assure he struggles.

RG3 had more of a supporting cast as a rookie than ANY rookie would find when they arrive here.
We need JFF

No, no, first he'd have to calm the stormy waters of the pool, then walk across it.

He may well prove me wrong and be a special player.

But he won't really change perceptions until later in the season, when he proves himself exceptional against NFL competition.

He likely won't be able to do that until the guys around him prove up to the task.

That's too much to ask of ANY player....not singling out Manziel.

Whomever lines up at QB for the Jaguars to start the season will have the same uphill battle.

I know you're right FBT, and that your more conservative approach to it all is far more judicious than my own. And I mean that honestly.

. But I just mention names like RG3 an Wilson, only because the starting rookie QB happens a lot(more than some on these boards like to admit). In fact I can't even think right now of the last QB drafted in the top 5(even top 10?) that didn't start the first game.

Man you love you some Johnny Football.  I'm going to miss all you post about him when the Jags don't draft him and you are gone  Smile
