Should former Arizona Cardinals safety Pat Tillman who quit the NFL and Enlisted in the US Army in June 2002 in aftermath of September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks. Pat was killed 10 years ago in 2004. I personally believe if they want to put some kind of Memorial of Pat Tillman that's ok but The NFL Hall Of Fame is about football career. Pat cleary wasn't a Hall Of Fame NFL player. RIP Pat Tillman

He is already in the college football HOF and was a very good college player.  I think he should also have a memorial, but shouldn't take the place of another HOF worthy player by being voted in.  If they elect to add him to the HOF through other means, I think it should work well for everyone.

Sure, if they make a special exhibit highlighting him, Bob Kelsu, Jack Lummus(Medal of Honor) and other pro players who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Too many people think with their heart instead of their head.

Tillman is not a Hall of Fame player.

I might be wrong but I think they already have an exhibit for players in the military.

He may not get into the Hall of Fame in the typical fashion, but he deserves a really good memorial in his name.

How many people now a days would leave a career in the NFL to join the armed forces? To add to that the situation that happened in Afghanistan.  He made the ultimate sacrifice for his country, and the NFL has no problem putting his name out there at every chance they get.

He should be honored.

There's a wing designed for players like Tillman. He shouldn't go in as a player though.

I would have no problem with it.
Yeah a memorial is ok good idea but going in as player could keep players deserving out which would be wrong. RIP Pat

Not seeing it for him in the hall of fame.
NFL HOF? .....Is this serious?

I could see the Cardinals doing something nice and have some sort of memorial for him in the Cardinals Stadium, but HOF talk is ridiculous.

No. As a player he wasent really good. Special teamer at best. His football skills was on the level of a Nick Sorensen.
Its the National Football League hall of fame.

Not the personal sacrifice hall of fame.

Not the bravery hall of fame.

Not the honor and heroic deeds hall of fame.

The NFL hall of fame is for the very best football players to ever play the game and Tillman is not even in that stratosphere.

By all means have a non-football related wing for all the NFL players who have done great work off the field. But to put Tillman in with Jim Brown, Lawrence Taylor, Jonny Unitas and Dick Butkus and the like is a joke.

The NFL Hall of Fame should not be interpreted for honor and country. Although, what happened to him is a complete tragedy, he in no way shape or form deserves or earned a spot in the Hall of Fame. If he does, then so does the 4,000+ soldiers, marines, airmen, and sailors who have already passed away (many who passed away in a more honorable sense) during OIF and Afghan. I think he deserves something from the US government, rather than the NFL. But so do all the other fallen soldiers as well. Maybe they should create a memorial for the fallen soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan like they made for Vietnam.

GO JAG!!

He deserves to go in for being an American hero. This guy decided to stay over there when he had a good chance of returning to the NFL. Having someone like him in the HOF would be a great move by the NFL.

I don't think so. The HoF should be used as an honor for NFL players who were of rare caliber ON THE FIELD. I respect him for what he did and maybe he deserves some type of separate honor along with other players in similar situations as the poster a few posts ago suggested but not a HoF bust. The true story on how he was slain also makes the argument even harder IMO. Rocky Bleier should be just as if not more than worthy of the same treatment if Tillman gets in.

IIRC they already do.
Did you say Rocky Blier or Pat Tillman?

If Tillman gets into the HoF I hope its after Rocky Blier. Rocky is just as if not more deserving of entry if compared to Tillman.
He is an american hero, while OJ Simpson is an american disgrace.  One is in the HOF and the other isnt is it right?  Yes.

It is only right because the HOF is based on continued excellence in regards to performance on the football field not off of it.

To my understanding they have a section for veteran heros in the HOF to which his name is mentioned which is appropriate to honor him for his service.  In my opinion future HOF should have high character in addition to performance for submittal but I realize they probably wont change that as it is subjective to ones perception.

I can't wait until everyone forgets about this in two weeks... again.
