Wow who would've thought. Especially for it to be in the cerebellum of all areas. Rotten luck.

Best of luck to Russell. As coach Bradley said, he'll always be a Jaguar.
Wow... that's rough, I liked Allen. Hope he does okay. I wish they didn't cut him but rather let him openly retired..

I wonder if a few of us fans can get together and do something for him? Kind of like an appreciation/farewell type of thing for him. I like the guy. Especially the fact that he had a harder road getting into the NFL and he made a name for himself here in Jacksonville. He wasn't a World Beater, but he served this team at a respectable level for awhile.

Why?

They've released plenty of players who ended up retiring Jaguars.
Stuff like this makes me genuinely hate the fact I love football and hate even more the fact that I played it.

I heard about this story while I was at work today and I must say that as I read it, I Truly felt his pain. I gained a better inderstanding of his release but more importantly a better understanding of his injury late last season...

A Great player he is and always will be in my eyes. I truly wish the best for him and his family...

Get Well Soon Mr. Allen...

NH3...
Sad story.

They could sign him to a one day contract to allow him to retire as an Jaguar...

Hopefully it get's done...

NH3...
Doesn't he retire as a Jaguar if this was his last team?

I don't see why they didn't just do that rather than Cut him. Why resign him? Could have just simply let him retire.

The Jaguars is his only NFL team...

Agreed...

I'm guessing that there an Time Frame (years) stipulation to which a player plays before he can retire...

NH3...
Russel is a medical release. There is language and provisions in the CBA for these situations but I do not profess to know anything about the structure.

In plain and simple terms, Russell was injured on the job and will not ever be able to perform that job again, he suffered a permanent disability.

Godspeed to you and your family, you are in my families daily prayers.

I feel really sorry for the guy, what a sad way to end your career. But he deserves a lot of respect for speaking out on head injuries. I really hope something positive can come out of this.
I kind of suspect if he retires rather than being medically waived he loses some rights.

Absolutely terrible news. Had a lot of respect for Allen for the way he came into the league and progressed. Have even more respect for him now after the way he's handled this situation. I hope he's able to live a relatively normal life after this and find some happiness.

Respect to Gus and Dave for the way they handled the situation too. Its nice to see instances where you don't feel like the business is so cutthroat. Its not like sending Laurent Robinson out to get 4 concussions in 8 weeks or whatever those numbers were.

Reading stories like this really put this game we all love into perspective. Maybe we should think about this more when we're bashing certain players because they're "scrubs". These guys literally put their lives on the line for what is essentially just a game.
Wow, really hope he can make the best recovery possible.

Best wishes to him and his family.

The guy overachieved and made a good life for himself and his family. He is a likable player, and by all accounts, a good guy. He may have to make some life adjustments, but unless he was a complete moron with his money, he set himself and his family for life. I wish him well. I don't think we should feel too badly about it, because if you asked him, I'd bet he would say he would do it all again, even knowing what he knows now. It's part of the job.

While I feel bad to a point for him, I will still have much more empathy for a soldier who gets a limb blown off in a foreign country while protecting my freedom, all the while making about 25k a year for doing it. He is a much bigger hero in my eyes and much more deserving of my sympathies.

The Blount strip was his best play.

Best of luck to him. I think he will be just fine after football. Hopefully he doesnt suffer from headaches or something later on.
