If jimmy smith didn't retire he might of been in the same boat as Blackmon.

Blackmon loves to drink while Smith has a nose for powder.

Hard choices

Jimmy might have been in the same boat after posting 12,000+ career receiving yards. Blackmon barely has 1,200.

I was referring to the drug issues not the production.

OF course you can't compare Jimmy Smith to Justin Blackmon.  Smith was a proven player that played for many years why Blackmon has a hard time seeing the field.  Blackmon may have played 2 seasons but missed tons of time because of stupidity.

Great post!

Blackmon's QCR is 102.7 whereas Jimmy's QCR is 92.1   ---  This only goes to show that most of Jimmy's catches and yardage occured in the 2nd half when the games were wll in hand.    I'm not saying Blackmon is better then Jimmy but you got to look at the QCR as part of the overall evaluation.

What the heck is QCR?

Quarterly Coke Receptions

Quality Catch Rating.   It breaks down meaningful catches such as those that happen during close games vs blowouts.

A contrivance that is so poor it says that Justin Blackmon is better than Jimmy Smith.

You know, the Jimmy Smith who caught the game winning touchdown over the Broncos.

Who took it to the house against the Jets in the playoffs the next year.

There's really no way to spin it as if Blackmon is better than Smith.

Blackmon has the potential to be even better, but that doesn't mean he's there yet. Simply put, Jimmy would catch the ball and then find the quickest route to the sideline. Blackmon catches the ball and then looks for the surest route to the end zone.

Potential is pointless when you're sitting home on indefinite suspension.
Okay, next question.  Who would you take, Mark Brunnell or Blaine Gabbert?

Am I doing this right?

Now its right...

I'm not seeing the potential for a 300 yard game in Blackmon.

He's had some good games, but they seemed to be more that the other team played poorly than he played great.

He's probably the best prospect currently signed to the team, but he doesn't have more potential than Jimmy Smith.
Smith had the one thing that Defenses truly fear and in a quantity that Blackmon doesn't quite have; speed. Smith threatened to take the top off of the Defense on just about every play whereas Blackmon threatens to plow through the Secondary on every play. I am still convinced that in the NFL speed kills. If you have it, teams will fear you. While Blackmon probably has a better skill set at the same point in his career as Smith, he can't touch Jimmy's speed.

Well it's a good thing you're not a scout.

You don't need to be a scout to understand what a blown coverage is.
