Quote:  I don't think they intend to deal Shorts.  He's proven himself capable and with Blackmon an unknown entity they'll want to have someone they trust that doesn't run a 4.6 forty time.

If they do get a nice offer for him it would more likely be Kerry Taylor who steps up to replace Shorts.  He's taller, bigger, and faster than Brown.

I like Mike Brown.  He's a good route runner with above average hands - but he's just too slow to be a major part of this offense long term.   As the roster is upgraded with more speed he'll sink on the depth chart.  If injuries, rookie learning curve and Blackmon being Blackmon play a role again this year - he may have a shot to be a contributor. But that's about it IMO.

You people just love to champion mediocrity around here. SMH.  #amidoingthisright?   :teehee:

Shorts' speed was also a question when he came into the league - Yet he still showed he could make big plays. Brown's got a little of that too. Neither of them are burners, but both have enough functional speed to get it done. Kerry Taylor could also be in play for snaps though, I do agree.
Quote:So you believe that Brown is equal to or better than Shorts in terms of production/performance/upside?

I think at worst he's very close in those terms, yes. But - Shorts is more proven as a starter, so he can still garner interest if put on the market. I think theres a chance he could snag us a 3rd rounder.

Well if a team offered a 3rd round pick, I would definitely be in favor of taking that deal.
Cecil Shorts won't command a Victor Cruz/Golden Tate-like contract, so I don't see him being traded. I expect a WR to be drafted at some point as Blackmon insurance.
And from what I saw with Mike Brown, I think he has a lot of potential. I think it'll be hard for him to beat out Ace because they are similar players, but he is a decent #4/#2 when Blackmon is out. Wish Marcedes Lewis would reach his potential to open it up for our smaller WRs.

Yes, and you just illustrated what also would help make him a viable option on the trade market...

Marcedes has reached his potential.

You people still holding out hope for that bum are wasting your time. We need to draft his replacement in 3 weeks.

Good riddence.

I've pretty much lost hope for him, but he's still our best TE. Deep at the top of the TE class, so I hope we can get a good one.

Not sure what the Jaguars could pull for him in a trade, but anything later than a 4th, I'd rather see the Jags just hold on to him. If DC could snag a 3rd for him, that's just robbery.

Marcedes time will come. Dave has shown he's not afraid to cut bait if deemed necessary.

Replacement in hand or not.

I wouldn't call it robbery. Cheap, productive, complimentary kinda WR thats still young...

If we didn't already have a couple potential replacements already on the roster, I probably wouldn't even advocate dealing him. Its just an opportunity for us, if we are looking ot acquire more draft picks.
Quote:Mike Brown will replace Cecil Shorts' position when he's dealt this draft.

trolls will be trolls. at some point in time you actually have to keep good players on your team. you dont trade every single player who is coming up on the end of a contract. shorts is a proven commodity. why would you get rid of a young proven commodity that will contribute to the team for an unknown? especially when the team is hurting for WRs already. illogical and presumably just said to stir the pot and get some reaction.

I wasn't trolling at all, clown.

IMO, Brown (or Brown + Taylor) can replace Shorts' role just fine, IMO. Then we can use the draft choice gained on other positions of need. Its called taking advantage of opportunity.

And when it doesn't happen we can say things like "they should have traded Shorts like I said".

Old and tired.

If you want to assume that stance, thats on you, not me.
The thing is -  Sullivan really likes Shorts and the staff really like Sullivan.  I don't think they'll think twice about offering shorts a 5 year extension (worth 18-20 million with around 7 mil guaranteed)

It really all depends on Blackmon and who they draft though.

or if he gets hurt..."should have traded him" mike brown and taylor are just guys. i like how someone who has been pretty good considering what he has around him is replaceable by 2 guys that have never done anything. probably wont even be on an nfl roster in a couple seasons. TMD what leads you to believe those guys can replace shorts? the 3 NFL games that mike brown has played in? the heck with experience, we should trade all of our good players and load the team up with these unproven guys as free agents and UDFAs because you want to just make some ostentatious statement like you have any credible data to back the fact that "hes going to be traded" and that those guys are just as good.
Taylor/Brown played pretty well and could replace Shorts. Shorts is also injury prone which is another big issue.
Keep forgetting we got Doss too who's got some upside.

I agree, to both. And also as you said about Shorts being injury prone.
