Does it bother anybody else when people say "film"? There is no film. The games were not shot nor are they viewed with a 35 mm camera.
ky jaggy what are your credentials for scouting? did you play football? were you taught the game by coaches or scouts? have you taught yourself.? if so please tell me a little about the process. I my self played up through college and am an avid fan. while I have a strong grasp of defensive and offensive line play I would not consider my a scout (but a very good judge). just curious, because you seem so sure of your ability to scout players. don't get me wrong I look at cut ups and get exited about players. though I couldn't tell you by looking at film that bortles is better than mack etc.

A layman fan cannot accurately scout unless they are somehow privy to broken down plays, a playbook and the intent of scheme. When the best of the best line up and try to gain advantage over an opponent, it often comes down to scheme and assignment. Coaches who make millions of dollars annually spend every waking hour of their lives trying to exploit the smallest weakness of an opponent. If that is successful or unsuccessful, it often comes down to execution by a player. That is what is graded, and without knowing the parameters beforehand, analysis is garbage, period.
yea I know

Does high school football and years of flag football experience count?

If so, I might be an expert.
have we heard any expert opinions on murrays pro day? I mean I read the OP'S links. just curious if there was anything with more depth yet.

sure why not im not an elitist

So jagsbum, where have you been the last 2 years?

My expert analysis says Tom Rathman was by far the greatest fullback in tecmo bowl history..
my experiences wont make me right more often than you

I have been reading I don't post to often

Well in my expert opinion, Murray is not the answer.

I've never, nor will I ever, called myself a scout. If anything I look at it as a coach, although I don't call myself that either. I played from as early in my life as I can remember until junior year of high school, mostly as a middle linebacker and TE (aka glorified OT since my school threw less than 10 times a game). My osgood schlatters disease got too bad for me to be able to keep up with conditioning (and I wasn't good enough to hope for a scholarship) so I stopped playing my senior year and was fortunate enough to be allowed to sit in with the coaches as they watched and broke down film, observed gameplan construction, etc. After high school I stayed connected and helped out where I could as I guess what would be a quality control coach now even though it didn't have a title and didn't get paid, I was just kinda around doing whatever. After two years of that I the head coach move to a different high school and I gave up the coaching aspirations, because honesty it's an extremely life sucking job and there is like a .001% of ever making more than a meager living at it.

I don't have a set grading scale like a scouts inc or anything. I just watch and compare traits, starting by position to do a rough sketch of how I rank them individually then slowly combining them. I don't even go as far as putting out a firm mock draft or top 100 or anything. Well, I have in the past as a guess writer for a couple blogs, but not anymore because it's jut not worth the amount of work it takes to take that next step. Now I just watch a whole lot of cutups because it's what I really like doing as a hobby and I give pretty educated opinions. I do my best to only focus on what we can realistically observe as far as it comes to gameplay. There are examples where behind the curtain stuff like medicals or interviews can change stock but I don't deal with that since it's just conjecture as far as the public can know.
