And if Martin is as good as people think, we will probably need to use our 2nd rounder on him.
The problem with Center being weak in this draft is simple... Either you get the top 2 guys, or you're screwed. You can't just hope they "drop" into your lap in the 3rd or 4th.
That's why I said I can see us reaching a bit here. Or perhaps we trade up using one of extra 4th and 5ths and get a guy like Martin.
If we use our second rounder it will be on Richburg for sure and not Martin. I doubt DC does that with the second round pick, so Martin would be ideal at #3. The clots need an C as well. I can see them taking Richburg in the second.
I would hope that we could pick up a FA C or G.
Weston Richburg supposedly has a first round grade among teams in the league. We would probably have to trade up to get him

why do you say that? better fit or you just think Richburg is clearly the better player?
I read a lot of people putting Martin ahead of Richburg.
With my limited knowledge and limited "work" by watching cutups on youtube, I see Martin as the better player. He seems to have more power and athletically I'd say they're similar.
Richburg seems a bit skinny for my liking.
I didnt watch many USC games last year but just watched this on youtube and Martin does a great job on Louis Nix, looks great when he gets the the next level also.

I hope we don't use a second round pick on a center or any interior lineman. I know its a big need but DE/WR/QB/CB are your best bets in the second. Dynamic players who change the outcome of games.

I watched the first drive of that game. He definitely held his own versus Nix and any other D-Lineman that he went up against, but I felt like he didn't do so well when he went for the LB. I watched him overrun the LB twice, and then not stick to his block on a third play. When he didn't stick to the block, his man was the one that made the tackle.
No one's perfect, and I think that Martin is a good player, but he does have some things to work on.

The funny thing about that statement is that the top two guys are different on nearly every "big board" I've seen from the usual draftnik suspects.
Richburg, Swanson, Stork, Martin all seem to rotate within those top spots among the various rankings. I don't see a clear-cut "top two guys."
edit: just re-checked -- since the prodays, Stork seems to have fallen to the consensus #4 or even #5 guy.
so out of - Richburg, Martin, Swanson -- who are we "screwed" with?

Watch the whole thing, he looked good and I was impressed. He laid a few LB's out at the next level

Good video, he had his moments. He did well 2:04 and 2:58 was awesome, but he seemed to get beat towards the end of the game, maybe winded, tired, but he held his own most of the game. Especially vs. Nix. I would pick him with the 3rd rounder.
Quote:Joeckel>>>Beadles>>>Brewster?>>>Rackley? >>>Pasztor
Are they on the roster? Do we draft and start 2 rookies?
I hold out hope that Brewster can be a starter at his natural position. I assume Rackley will be depth.
Would it shock or upset everyone if Dave drafted Robinson or Matthews OT at #3?

I don't think it happens, but if it does I would be fine with it.

Just read the post this time last year about taking OT @ #2. If I remember it was pretty evenly split but this time we seem to have a capable RT in Pasztor so I would think most say go another direction.

Wouldn't be shocked or upset - but I'd be disappointed.
I'd just rather see an elite pass rusher selected if they can't trade down.

would you pick him in the 2nd? I think Martin is the best Center in the draft, and I just can't expect the best Center in the draft to drop that far.

It depends on what the Jags do with the first pick. I think Martin could be had in the 3rd round. If the Jags trade down and receive another 2nd round pick, then yes a C/OG would be one of my picks in the second.

I forgot about Swanson... change my 2 to a 3.
I repeat, I'm no expert at all. From the majority of the websites, it appears the Center positions is kind of weak and isn't deep at all. That's not good for us when we have a glaring need at that position.
Similarly, we have a need at WR but i'm more calm knowing WR is very very deep in this draft, so we have more flexibility.

I had an opportunity to watch the rest of the video. Here's my thoughts on Martin:

2:30 - He gets killed by Nix. This isn't necessarily unexpected as Nix looks to have at least 35 pounds on him, but it did happen.

3:00 - Nice Combo block with his Guard where he climbs to the next level.

4:00 - Chases on a looping DL and gets caught in traffic. It happens, but that's another concern

4:50 - Another nice job of climbing and this time he cuts the LB. Very nice to see him throw in a little diversity with his moves.

6:30 - He seals the backside of the play and did a nice job of being patient and waiting for the LB to show. If he had been overeager, the LB may have run the play down in pursuit.

7:00 - He combo blocked to the LB, but he didn't hold the block. Looks like he was starting to wear a bit at this point. Make no mistake, blocking a LB in space is
tough.

7:55 - Nix gets him again.

8:05 - He does not chase the looping DL this time. He can learn in-game from his mistakes. Nice quality to have!
