Demarcus Lawrence, we should be so lucky if he is still there at 39. It's amazing how people are still sleeping on him. Almost as amazing as the people who still like Yankey.
And Lawrence has the ability to be a very good SAM too, so he is not redundant with Clowney at LEO.

If we pick Clowney at 3, no way we will go defense in the 2nd round, unless a top 15 type player fell, Caldwell already said offense is where he will draft early since the focus was on defense in FA.

He is ridiculously good...and would be our Bruce Irvin type SAM.

I'm aware we suddenly have a lot of pass rushers, but I wouldn't let a bunch of 30+ yr old FAs and a small 1.5 mil guaranteed Watson signing cost me what could very well be by a fairly big margin the best player on the board at the time. SAM is still a major need for us IMO, Watson has potential but I'm not counting on him as a starter.
Also, Adams would be a perfectly good pick too. I just loooove Lawrence and want him to be getting more publicity like he deserves.

My twitter feed was full of some intriguing stuff about this guy today.

I like Demarcus Lawrence as well.

I like Lawrence, but if you're going to draft a linebacker, draft a linebacker and not a project. Van Noy is far better and comes with experience.

Quote:Kyle Van NoyMy problem with drafting Van Noy in the second round is that he's purely an outside linebacker. Not a tremendous athlete, not a LEO prospect, just Poz if Poz played outside. I think he'll be a good player, but I think we need a more dynamic playmaker at that spot.
Quote:Yea I like your choices, but I dont think we will take a FS that high, def would not take a OG right there like others are saying.I'm not sure on Brooks. He might be more of a trade-down option, but if Pryor's gone, he could make sense. He's a very fast, very rangy safety, and has a little bit of that Earl Thomas center-field ability in him. Not saying he's anywhere near Thomas' level, but the more I read about this kid, this more I think that he might be a target as early as 39.

Van Noy is actually a very good playmaker if you don't solely look at stats.

And Lawrence would be a 1 trick pony as a linebacker. He's not even that elite of a pass rusher either. I'd probably rather have Scott Crichton rushing from the end spot.
Like I said, if you want a linebacker draft a linebacker. If you want a defensive end, then draft a defensive end.

You're right it's hard to know how he will be in coverage since he didn't do it in college, but neither did Bruce Irvin and he is ok at it now. I think Lawrence would become versatile in time much like Irvin, and he has double digit sack potential in him right now. And yes I know that Lawrence isn't the athletic freak Irvin is, but he is much more advanced technically too.
Like I said, if you want a linebacker draft a linebacker. If you want a defensive end, then draft a defensive end.

Mettenberger or Ward.

Fales
04-05-2014, 05:27 PM
Yankey, ASJ, Garrop, Met, then McCarron
04-05-2014, 06:04 PM
Jordan Matthews and that's an easy choice

Quote:Word is that Mettenberger will do all the drills at LSU pro day next week, so if he does that he will def be ready for the season, even still he prob wont be expected to start this year anyways. If you think Caldwell will pass on him due to character issues, you must feel he would pass on Watkins too right? i'm asking because I dont know if your one of the many who say we might draft Watkins.I have had the Jags taking Watkins at #3 in a couple of mocks.
Watkins was also accused of rape and was said to have a drinking problem. Hmmmm, I missed that.
