Tackling. Oh, wait...

Blake just has problems playing in North America.

The dude is 2-1 in Europe.

Das Boot

Quote:I think there was a thread similar to this in the past.  But in light of recent events, I had to bring this back up.  We could discuss page after page of what is wrong with Bortles, but still, I think there are things Bortles does well, even now.

What I think Bortles is good at:

* Eye Level - Bortles is always looking down the field.  No matter how long the play, he is looking down the field to pass the ball.  Not all quarterbacks can do that.  He very often gets a pass off way after other quarterbacks may have already given up.

* He can make multiple reads - Bortles is comfortable making multiple reads and swinging his head to find the next open receiver.

* He's fearless - He's pretty much as tough as a quarterback can be.

* Pocket presence - I've heard it said before that he has bad pocket presence.  I completely disagree.  This is one of his strengths in my opinion.

What Bortles sucks at:

I've said this before.  But it's all about his mechanics.  His mechanics are causing inaccuracy and are responsible for a good deal of his turnovers.  Many have pointed out decision making as a big problem too.  But I believe that his mechanics are making his decision making seem worse than it is.

Honestly, when they drafted Bortles the first thing I said (actually on this very board) was that I was worried about his accuracy.  I don't know if you can fix this.  I just know it is worse that it was before, which proves it can at least be better.

So let me know if my assessment of the situation is completely garbage.  Because, at this point, we don't really have a replacement for Bortles.  We're just kind of stuck with whatever we can build on.   I'm not that optimistic.  But I think there is at least something.

I would say that the 2nd bullet point does not apply to Blake. He's locked on a lot this season, and missed open receivers in the process. I agree with the 1st, and definitely the 3rd. I don't think he has bad pocket presence (like Blaine), but I don't think he's good there. To clarify, when I talk about pocket presence, I refer to guys like Brady who will slide and shift in the pocket while keeping their eyes downfield until the receiver breaks open. What Blake does I consider more an escapeability (think Romo or Russell Wilson). They can sense the pressure enough, but they don't shift in the pocket to avoid it, rather, they use their athleticism to avoid the pressure and make a play out of the pocket.
He's tall enough, he might make a good floor lamp.

what is Bortles good at?

-Durable.  Hasn't missed a game due to injury.

-Mobile for his size

-Looks to extend the play

that's about all I can think of.

Yep, durability and mobility for his size have been the only two I've been coming up with all season too. Everything as it pertains to actually throwing the football successfully is average at best to way, way below average.
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

HUH

Has the highest YPC of any player in the NFL since 2015 of people who have rushed over 100 times.
BB6 can take off a helmet and put on a baseball cap faster than anyone I've ever seen.  His motion is fluid and precise.  His passion for the helmet to cap transition is at a HOF level.  He's clearly been practicing that movement hard last off-season.

Also has a good sense of humour. His Bortles wikipedia reading club was always a good segment on Pardon My Take
Biting his tongue..............

12 ounce curls at the Ritz give him the practice he needs to pull off such a feat.

Baaaahhiiiii. Funny
Looks good at the sideline looking aloof, spinning the ball on the palm of his hand
Quote:Pick6, gotta give the man his due
I think he found a way to merge his two passions. Every time Bortles throws a pick 6, Bortles takes a drink.
Sticking his tongue out

taking sacks and not getting hurt

throwing on the run

This. That's it. No downfield vision, no spirals, no accuracy. It's really pathetic. He is not an NFL QB.
Saying he should stop throwing Pick 6's
