Jeff Lageman just on 1010XL said he has done extensive study of the top draftees in the last 3 weeks. Hours and hours of watching tape. He doesn't think that any QB is worth the #3. He says that there are 3 players better than the rest as he sees it. He said Clowney, Mack and Watkins.....not necessarily in that order. He believes Watkins is special and that, other than Blackmon, we have NO playmakers. And we need one badly.

People are starting to come around. A lot of people have been saying this for months. And honestly after the top 2 players in the draft (IMO Clowney and Watkins) the level of talent starts to drop.

 

I am hoping we have a shot at either Clowney or Watkins.

Well, some of you are saying not to draft the qb at #3 for the same reasons so ya'll sounding a little hypocritical here. To answer your question i wouldn't draft jimmy smith at #3 if i didn't have my mark brunell first because in case some of ya'll forgotten the quarterback position is the most important on the team and chad henne, aj mccarron, jimmy(blaine gabbert) garoppolo, and tajh boyd isn't cutting it. Get the best qb at #3 and develop him properly because the new rookie pool would allow us as an organization to do so.

In this draft he is the 3rd best prospect. With the new rookie wage scale you don't have to stay with the same old adage as "only premium players in the top 5" because money is no longer an issue. He may not be Megatron but he's the 2-3rd best guy in the draft. That's why

I believe Dave wants to set up his future QB up for success......not failure. We need to strengthen the O-line and add weapons for the QB. That may be the plan.

Andre Johnson was drafted at #3, and he turned out great. 

 

When I look at Sammy Watkins I see the same player.....In fact their scouting profiles are almost identical.

We don't need the new guy to be running for his life like Gabbert was.....facing 9 in the box with no MJD......

Either way.....no need to stress......Dave is going to pick one helluva player.....Clowney, Mack, or Watkins

......if he trades back some......QB enters the picture

My point is if he doesn't get a top level qb this year then he's forced to draft one next year where he's not in the top three draft slot and the class is weaker because after mariotta and famous jamesis the rest of the class is unimpressive including bryce petty, and hundley.

Why would he need to grab a top QB prospect this year or next year? You can find guys in the 2nd or third round. The key is you have to have a good team around them while they continue to develop. Of the current starting QBs 13 of the 32 were not 1st round picks...this includes guys like Brady, Brees, Wilson, Kaepernick, Foles, Romo and Dalton.

 

Watkins a great receiving prospect who will be ready to produce from day one.

Agree.  Only now are the draftnicks et al realizing this QB crop isn't what they at first thought it would be.

Completely agree.  It takes more than an arm.  It takes an army.

WRs in this draft are about 10 or more deep so there is plenty

If you find a franchise QB out side the top 40 picks in this day and age you pretty much got lucky. Just saying the 32 starting QBs were not 1st round picks means nothing, how many of them are Franchise QBs? How many are stop gap? How many are just starting because the teams have no other choice?

We pick twice in the top 40! Nobody is saying these guys are not first round talent, just not pick #3 talent. What makes you think they wont be stop gap guys? BTW, 3 out of the final 4 teams must have gotten lucky last year with 3rd round or later starting quarterbacks.
