I don't understand how TMD sleeps at night.
What, with Bigfoot, chupacabra, the boogeyman, werewolves, and vampires (just to mention a few) on the loose...
Quote:So basically what you are saying is that it isn't a "theory".....what you are referring to is known as CONJECTURE.
Conjecture - an opinion or idea formed without proof or sufficient evidence
Thank you for clarifying :thanks:
tomato,
tomato....
I never did claim it was fact. I have casually seen examples of what I am talking about over the years or else I'd never be drawing this conclusion to begin with. I think over time those examples get calibrated into the "gut instinct" when I see/ hear a certain name for a certain sport.
Hopefully you'll feel better now and you can move on.

I never said you did. In fact the word theory implies your idea can't be proven, but at least it would be based on some facts. However, since you have admitted its a "gut instinct" then it makes it conjecture, which is totally different than a theory.
I was willing to do some research to see if your point was somewhat valid, but you can't even give me the basic principles of your concept. Which is why I said it is ridiculous and I will further add LAUGHABLE.

ok. HAHAHA.
you're right.
All I can do is list some players that I have this feeling on - before they are drafted and test this theory/ gut feeling/ indigestion/ lunacy/ this space for rent/ out, and see how they fare in later years.
But do I honestly feel theres something to it, (for whatever reason)? Yes, I do. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bothered.

Ok that is pretty much what we all do on this college forum anyway....but don't say it is based upon their name or how their name sounds. Just say your gut gives you a feeling about guys and leave it at that.
For instance, on paper Teddy is probably the best QB in this draft class. However, there is something about Johnny Manziel (a gut feeling), that I fell he will end up being the better QB in the NFL. I have no way of proving this, but I am not going to say because he has a cool name/nickname is the reason I feel that way.

Ok, put it this way....
I feel that Bridgewater has a lot of qualities that will help make him successful as a pro QB, such as his accuracy, command of the position, football IQ, and so on....
Does "Teddy Bridgewater" also sound like a football type star name as well to me? Yep, sure does.
Is the "name" going to supercede anything else in the evaluation process to make me select or avoid him in the draft? No way. But as I subconsciously and consciously go over all the players I've watched become stars in this league, "Teddy Bridgewater" just does have that feel of a successful player to it.
Its like an intangible.
By the way....RB Todd Gurley isn't in this years draft anyway, right?....he'll be eligible next year, IIRC.

Ok but there are many guys that have "names that sound like a football star" that have also busted/flamed out of the NFL as well. Probably just as many success/failure ratio as those that have "goofy football names". For every one that was successful there is probably one that wasn't if you look through history.
And yes Gurley is not draft eligible until next year.
Also, to get back on topic. I really like James White from Wisconsin. I think he is the most complete RB in the entire draft (blocking, rushing, and receiving).
Quote:With the departure of Mojo, and no proven impact RB on the team, Evaluating our next franchise RB has to be a top priority after QB. I know some of yall are going to say "well we got Gerhart". Sorry but he is no impact player..He lacks speed and quickness.. Anyways im hoping we draft a rb somewhere between rnds 3-5.I would love to see Gurley here..
Honestly, the days of THE franchise back are over for now. I'd love to have Gurley if he fell to us. But Gerhart is plenty good.

Thats actually a good point as well that you bring up in the first paragraph.
Have you seen either Terrence West or Ka'deem Carey?....

Teams all seem to want a tandem or even 3 headed monster anymore....
I wonder if its something that GM's see as a way to artificially keep salaries down at the position, too.

Probably more to do with their short effective shelf life, on average. Plus all the rules favor the passing game.

I strongly disagree with that statement. I don't think the days are over. I just think it is very difficult to find guys now who can rush for the tough yards, block, and be a receiving threat all in one and who can do it year after year, or a guy who just excels at rushing that he is your primary guy.
Only guys that are franchise guys at the moment IMO are:
Lesean McCoy
Adrian Peterson
Frank Gore
Marshawn Lynch
Ray Rice
Matt Forte

I like Ka'deem Carey alot, but his lack of weight for his size concerns me. He was built more like a slot WR than a RB IMO. I don't like him added on all that weight since I worry he will lose some explosiveness when he accelerates.
I honestly, haven't seen Terrence West, so I can't comment on him

You think? 207 for 5' 10" might be a little light, but not too extreme.
I mean, I've seen RB that were 6 foot that listed at 200, now that to me seems light.
Perhaps Ka'deem could add another 5 lbs....or so.

I mean where he was before the combine. He added over 10lbs of weight after the college season was over. I am worried that he will loose some of that quickness/explosiveness he displayed when making cuts.
You have to remember Arizona had him listed at 196 during the season, and its possible he weighed even less than that.

196 is a bit too light for the position. Cross him off list.
It's really a waste of time to dissect player heights and weights. It means so little.
As long as they are not a midget or fat, they will be fine if they are actually good.

Well, I think that reinforces the point I was making. Guys who can do everything a franchise back can do are rare. Add to that their short shelf life and the rules favoring the passing game, and you have the current NFL situation. Have 3 or 4 backs to fill those roles that cost you less than the cost of the 1 franchise back.
