Quote:I was the one who brought up LT, but my point in doing that was, that we were getting carried away with the Kevin Hardy comparisons.   Kevin Hardy does not represent the best that we can possibly get from a linebacker.

Kevin Hardy definitely does not represent the best possible scenario. However, we're not looking for the BEST possible scenario but the most LIKELY scenario.

Kevin Hardy was good at everything, but not elite at one thing. That can also be said about Mack. It's not like Hardy was some slouch coming out of college. He was a stud, and there's a slight possibility that our scheme did not fully take advantage of him (his only Pro-bowl/All Pro year was the year we had Capers, who utilized Hardy more as a pass rusher than previous DC's). Then you also factor in that both played under the same guy in college and it's not too difficult to make him be a good comparison.

Certainly a much better one than LT...

Succinctly explains some of why I do not want Mack at 3.
We can't miss with this pick and I don't feel that Mack is a certain improvement.

I know it's early but I don't think Caldwell missed on many of his picks year one. I could be wrong but I think we are in good hands, whomever he picks first I will initially be excited about until proven otherwise.
W/respect to the impact that Mack can potentially have on an defense is based on the defensive scheme by far.... Any good LB could become great if he's in the proper elements...

Let's remember that Mack's teammates were of a lesser scale than he. Place him w/the Big Boys and watch him grow...

I think with our WR deal it isn't the worst group in the league but until we can be assured that Blackmon wants to play football Sammy Watkins is a can't miss player. We got better on defense in free agency but now without MJD who is going to be our play maker down field? Shorts? That didn't work very well last year.

MJD didn't work out very well last year to his own admittance...

Well I don't know if it's a smoke screen but Coach Bradley said in interview at owner meetings last week that 3-4 teams should be interested in Mack. Jags are 4-3 team but do have some 3-4 concepts. I really think if we stay at 3 it's gonna Be Clowney or Watkins.

Also said that Mack would play the LEO in his defense not OLB
Quote:wasn't he the guy that Keith Byars just destroyed while blocking for a Randall Cunningham scramble? in 1989 or 1990?....

Or am I confusing him with being the guy that Cunningham amazingly escaped from after taking that famous hit on Monday Night Football in 1988 and somehow keeping his balance and composing himself to throw that quick TD dart...??
That was bruce Smith that almost sacked Randal Cunningham only for him to throw some kind of 99 yard TD pass or something..

True but I think he'd be better at Sam lb we don't want another Groves playing De instead of Lb. The Leo position is a De/Lb type position though.
Who doesnt need a game changing defender?
Clowney is the best pass rusher period. The guy is one of those freaks that come out and can do things people of their size shouldn't be able to do. If Gus can't motivate him to play then no one can.

you and I are talking about 2 different plays/ games entirely.  I also remember the one you speak of, that was in 1990 and vs the Bills....the one I am talking about was in 1989 or 1990 but it was vs the Giants.
