Quote:Thank you my good friend because for once someone made some sense with this situation, I'm not saying play blaine gabbert because i'm done with him just everyone else on the message board. We as a franchise can save that money to resign chad henne and use it elsewhere to improve the football team and draft teddy bridgewater at #3 and not look back.i agree with the beginning but not really the end lol... TB is still a question mark and u can bet there will be looking back this if we take hime and he turns out to be a bust.... id say let henne walk, see if u can lock up vick, if not, roll the dice on TB but either way make sure gabbert doesn't see the field unless.
the way i see it, caldwell seems like a pretty smart guy, when he takes a QB he has to know he is tied at the hip to that pick(at least if its in the first)... his job is gonna be riding on the succsess or failure of that QB... whereas a FA qb doesnt necessarily pose the same situation... he can develop a guy under FA that he takes in the second or 3rd and it wouldnt be as critical(for the GM) if the QB draft pick or the FA turn out to be our guy because he didn't reach with the first round pick... plus with our line looking the way it does now, why hinge ur job to a first round pick that u may or may not get slaughtered regardless of his talent.
as a fan, i would love to see us reaching for a polarizing QB, but if i was a gm and my job depended on that kid, idk if it would be so simple

Quote:He's not that good. He's always hurt. I don't understand the upside. You'll just end up playing the backup anyway.its kinda sad but i would rather have a QB who i know can ball on my team that was injured doin what he does best over.. well... anything we have now lol.
Wasted money.
and who cares if we waste a little dough on a one year deal... cap doesnt roll over so if vick sux, we watch him walk next year and our cap would be right back where it is now.

Quote:As said before....the only way this makes sense in my eyes, is if the Jags plan on drafting Johnny Manziel. This way, if one gets hurt, the offense doesn't need to change drastically to fit the other's skill set.
Otherwise, I don't want to see this guy as a Jaguar.
I think it could also mean they dont want to get a QB early at all. Vick doesnt want to sit the bench.

Quote:I think it could also mean they dont want to get a QB early at all. Vick doesnt want to sit the bench.like i said above... caldwell job is gonna be hinged to the success of failure of a 1st round QB...i dont see it as being smart to take an early round QB, that is prolly gonna play immediately, with our line in the shape its in now... as i fan i would like to see it, but if i was a GM, it would be alot harder to pull the trigger on a guy like manziel or birdgewater...FA and second day draft picks, IMO, would be where im looking for a QB if i was caldwell.

Quote:I'm 100% okay with Vick if we're planning on taking Murray or Garopollo in the later rounds, this will allow us to take BAP in the first 2 rounds and we can let our guy sit a year and learn the offense honestly I'm okay with that.this would be absolutely perfect IMO... caldwell protects his backside by not reaching in the first for a QB and we add depth and talent to the QB position instantly.
i would be stoked if our QB depth look like this next year-
1. Mike Vick
2. blaine/murray
3. Murray/blaine

I don't see Caldwell's job hinged to the success of a first round QB.
We don't know if any of the "annoited 3" are even in the top 5 of the JAGS board.
The JAGS are building for the future.
Patience is difficult.
Rumor is fun.

Unless dave caldwell expect his team to be bad next year then how does he expect to get the top qb prospect in next years class? It seems like every year we as a fan base saying well next years class is going to be better and then when next year's crop plays out then we say the same thing about they was not an Andrew luck type of prospect as well. At some point he is going to be evaluated by shad kahn by the progress of his team if he drafts a first round qb or not so unless he has a plan to get this franchise a qb that can win from another route then get one while it's staring you in the face.

Dave Caldwell: Don't Draft Scared with it comes to a QB
03-07-2014, 12:39 PM
Vick looked pretty good 35 years ago in the championship against FSU. I'd take a chance on him.
03-07-2014, 01:00 PM
I cant see Dave signing big money for Vick whom many are still upset with his off field issuses (animal abuse), for a guy that will be injured during a full season especially behind an offensive line that hasnt even been formed let alone time to get chemistry.. on the other hand for a one year filler in we might need a guy whom can run out of the pocket to make throws while they gell..
im not against it, i just dont see Dave doing it.

Chad Scott is a Baby... Vick would be better than any QB we've had on the field in years...

Caldwell shouldn't be scared to draft a QB but he also shouldn't be stupid about it.
03-07-2014, 01:46 PM
Saying a GM is 'scared to draft' a quarterback is one of the most [BLEEP] things I've ever heard. QB has got to be the most OVER drafted position there is.

Quote:Like I said. Vick, Sammy and Boyd. Electric!Boyd? lol

I'd rather he not draft stupid when it comes to QB.
Prepare to groom any QB you take from this crop regardless of what round.

"QB fear" and "QB purgatory" are two of the most asinine strawmen this board has ever produced.

I don't see anywhere that I directed at anyone in particular. You even say REACHING for a QB. That's not the same as 'being scared to draft a QB'. That's just asinine for someone to think a GM would have fear of drafting QB in their rightful slot with the amount of time and research that is put into it. It's a really, really, dumb phrase. If a GM doesn't draft a guy, it's WAY more likely he doesn't fit the draft slot.

Looks like the Jags "interest" in him was just a smokescreen to make Henne take less money
