Quote:The DUI is what got him INTO the substance abuse policy as far as I remember. And yea, I didn't claim that he didn't have a history.

You said we didn't know his history. We certainly know part of it and have a good logical idea of what happened when he failed again. It doesn't matter what got him into the program. He has shown a history and obviously has an issue. This is problematic.
Quote:He probably wasn't interested in the girl that posted the pic... And she's gonna show him who's the boss...!

I wouldn't doubt that for a nanosecond.
I don't see anything wrong with the picture of Blackmon in the club. Does he have alcohol in his hands? Nah. It just looks like he is enjoying himself. Thats what 24 year olds do.

Quote:I'm not missing the issue. I disagree with the blanket statement that he shouldn't be in clubs, period. If he's not doing anything wrong and just having a good time, theres nothing wrong with that.

Yes there is. As I said, an alcoholic is asking for trouble if he is hanging out at bars. You are extremely naive.
People face their demons in different ways. Maybe he goes to prove he can go out and has beat his problem..........or maybe he was hammered. Fact remains is that picture doesn't shed light on either.

Draft Watkins and cut Blackmon.  Problem solved.

No, I'm not. As said, I know people who are recovering alcoholics and manage to do it without falling off the wagon. Did I say that it isn't a "tempting" environment? No. You are projecting.

Bingo.

That's what most 24 year olds do. But most 24 year old NFL players aren't facing 1 year suspension. Most don't have the history Blackmon does. This isn't most 24 year olds. He has a substance abuse issue. Is he doing anything wrong? Technically no (if he isn't drinking), but he is putting himself in a bad situation. I remember people defending him when he was wasted at the Ritz then next day he is in Oklahoma getting 2nd DUI.

Actually, given the "competitor" in Blackmon, the above is something that is a reasonable conclusion.
We don't even know what the reasoning was behind his last suspension, so I think too many people are assuming it was because of alcohol. Also him simply being at a bar doesn't mean he's not learned his lesson. The only known fact his about his problems with alcohol is that he makes dumb decisions while drunk, i.e. driving.

I'm not going to say that he has learned his lesson, but him being at a bar isn't a smoking gun to the contrary.

Agree.  If you put yourself in a situation where what has gotten you in trouble in the past is all around you....its bound to happen again.  To me, he isn't showing enough that he cares about getting better.  He still wants to party.

You'd like that wouldn't you?

Once the Jags "cut" Blackmon they'd be giving away a future HOF player for free. Uh-uh....the smart way to handle this is - he's either going to play here or nowhere else.
Quote:So that picture is recent, if so how do we know for sure, is it even him...?
Yeah. That could be Gabbert, the pic is so fuzzy. Ooops..spilled my JD.

Anyone where the pic was taken? Here in Jax? I thought he was out of State.

Either way...the Jags have been snake bitten in the WR dept with issues surrounding buzz abuse.
Man Im disappointed..this guy has so much potential.

But the deal about..oh, the girl was holding the bottle. Ooookay. That's like Christie getting his stomach tied to lose weight, then going to dance at the Boars Head Sausage Festival

Yes, he has a substance abuse problem, but again, do you see any alcohol in his hands? It's possible to go out and not drink.

The context of this thread is about him violating the substance abuse policy.  If he weren't in that program, this picture would be a non issue.  So this is all about that program, and we still don't know what he did in the program that violated the rules, nor do we even know what the rules are.

Bingo.

If you know recovering alcoholics who are hanging out at bars then they aren't very smart. Hey, I have an issue with shopping. I'm a shopaholic. I think it would be great to go to the mall... hey, I have an issue with drugs. We should probably go to that party where a bunch of people will be doing drugs.

Anyways, we will see. Believe me, I hope he makes it. Would be such a waste of talent. It just doesn't look good.

He is just surrounding himself in a bad environment. Is it possible sure, but more likely he will fall right back into his problems. Why even tempt yourself when you are facing a year suspension?

WHo are you to judge?

They have remained alcohol free for over 15 years, despite you labeling them, "not very smart". People handle things differently.

He just has to have self control. Can't expect a 24 year old with millions to dollars to be a home body due to issues that he has If the rehab had an effect on him, he should hopefully be ok. We'll see in time.
