He's been solid depth, and a good Jag.

I wouldn't say he was a good pick. Much more value was there to be had.

Bullseye, my bad....I typed Seth Payne and was thinking Rob Meier.

Forgot about Meier in my rant.

He's another guy I'd list above Alualu.
Quote:Alualu was drafted to be a penetrating pass-rusher. At that he's a total failure.

I wouldn't say that he fills gaps and stuffs runs extremely well either. He does that no better than most of the street free agent backup DTs the Jags have had around.

He has been a hard worker who always shows up and doesn't take plays off.

Tyson was drafted as an Disruptive DT that could enhance the Pass Rush. He was placed at the DE position for various reasons...

Quote:I think saying he's not a starter, a bust, and that the Jaguar media made him out to be something he's not is move of a statement of facts than chiming in with my opinion.

I have many more reasons for thinking he was a god awful pick, but the fact is he's a bottom of the roster player, finally gets paid like one, and doesn't start. I don't care anymore.

Actually if we pay attention to the production of the rotation, Tyson has outplayed Odrick (even though he's hurt) and others in My Opinion. The past few games to which he's played extensively, he's produced w/o question such as how Marks was relegated to the back up roll but he's playing like a starter as well...

Quote:Call me crazy but I would much rather had Earl Thomas, Jason Pierre-Paul, Dez Bryant, Maurkice Pouncy, Devin McCourty.

Any one of the above picks (that were available to us) would have changed the composition of our future draft picks (domino effect) making their impact and the impact of other players that we may have gotten even greater.

Those are great picks.  I think what he's saying is that Alualu was a solid pick which is up for debate at this point though most probably disagree.

CJ Spiller and Rolando McClain were taken right before Alualu and I'd call them both busts by comparison.
He was not a good pick. I swear posting threads need to be approved by mods.

Rob Meier was a boss
He's our best 1st round pick since 2003

Jesus that is rough going.
He's made zero plays worth mentioning. He doesn't even start.

Yeah... Alualu has never outplayed Odrick. Seeing as how Odrick was hurt in week 3, comparing him and Alualu might be the funniest thing I've ever seen. In general, regardless of position, Who has he outplayed on the Dline? Not Malik. Not Senderrick. Not Roy Miller. Not Yannick. Who? Even before this year, since Tyson was drafted, what Dlineman have we had (outside of camp fodder) have you been able to say, with 100% confidence, Tyson outplayed?

He was also a healthy inactive the first 2 (3?) games. When has that ever happened to a good top 10 pick?

I tried to stay out of this, but this is hilarious. The only defense I see for Tyson Alualu is that he's been here a long time, and that where he was picked isn't his fault. Truth is, his draft pick and contract saved his job.

Lol people take critisim of Alualu so personally on here. It wasn't Blaine Gabbert's fault where he was picked, he was picked 10th over a lot of pro bowl caliber players, does that make him a good pick as well?

Ask yourself these questions;

If you could make that pick in the 2010 NFL draft again, would you? (Your answer should be "hell no")

If every pick the Jaguars made in the top 10 ended up like Tyson, career wise, would you have a good team? (Again, hell no)

Sorry, but that means he's a bust. Top 10 picks are theoretically the top 10 players in the draft, and should change your teams future. Not being painfully underwhelming on a terrible team, only to be benched and replaced on another bad team.

Good top 10 picks aren't healthy scratches, bench warmers, nor have their positions taken from them every year. Sorry.

Alualu has had no standout years. He has never even been the teams best DT or DE in any year, and the Jags haven't exactly been strong at those positions.

In 2007 Reggie Williams led the team in TD receptions (a team record at the time), and receiving yards.

Matt Jones led the team in receiving yards. Twice.

Marcedes Lewis tied Reggie Williams team record in receiving TDs.

Reggie Nelson led the team in interceptions in 2007.

None of these players was a good pick, but they at least all led the team in something one year.

He is our current starter and has 84 starts for his career.

Forcing a fumble on inside the 1
Credit where it's due, def by far the best play of Alualu's career.
Was Alualu worth a top 10 pick? No, but the guy has earned his spot on the roster over the years. Great rotational piece for us.

Exactly my sentiment
Gene Smith's Alualu pick > Dave Caldwell's The Joke pick or Bortles pick.
