Quote:I typically follow Mayock's rankings but you just never know who will fail at the next level or surprise. But his insights are ones I typically enjoy reading/listening to or whatever.

When I polled the board about draft analysts, almost everyone voted for Mayock. Someone said he does more research on players than anyone else and his TNF commentary shows that.
Quote:Every guy has their own list and they're all different. I like Hyde a lot, I also like Sankey, and Terrance West.

In that order?
Quote:Then why can't I find anybody saying Carlos Hyde is not a first round talent? I have not heard or read anything about him possibly dropping into the second round.
Why do you post statements like this? You make points with absolutely no factual backing and you come across as being ignorant. You give no thought before posting and you don't do your research first. No wonder no one takes your opinions seriously on this forum. Here's a link to the CBS.com mockers.

NONE have him going in the first. And it's likely because RB's don't have the same value they used to have and this is a deep draft at the skill positions.

Quote:Sure I do - at the mocks on NFL.com, of course. And they all have Carlos Hyde going in the first round.
And here's the NFL.com version. Only two of the four mock drafters have him being drafted 1st.

Of one of the two who didn't mock draft him in the first, Bucky Brooks both former player and NFL scout, meets both of your criteria. Provide more useful posts instead of just posting something to argue with someone about.
I like Mayock and his analysis above the ESPN guys for sure. He's very meticulous as far as his evaluation. He was the first that I heard use the "burping the baby" term in regards to a QB telegraphing when preparing for a throw. And he's got others that he uses with pretty much all positions.

That said, he was the one who thought Bjeorn Werner was the best DE last year and had Gerald McCoy over Ndomikong Suh in 2010. He even thought the Alualu pick was a good pick, which I guess may have been in a later round. Don't get me wrong, I still like Mayock's rankings and will agree with him over most, but his opinions aren't gospel.

McCoy has been playing great football the past couple seasons and he may be the better of the two right now.

He has always been the better football player because he is not dirty. Ndamukong Suh may have better numbers, but that does not matter to me if he gets them by playing dirty.

So you're saying he's not perfect?

Good point. McCoy had a great season last year, especially rushing the passer from the DT position.
Quote:So the people who don't list him first are not the draft analysts who actually research every prospect and have NFL experience.

Daniel Jeremiah is a former scout. Mike Mayock is a former player. They both spend a lot of time learning everything about draft prospects and work at the Senior Bowl (I know Mayock couldn't this year, but he usually does) and the Scouting Combine. So I will trust their judgment when they disagree with somebody on a TV network.

Mayock was there. He simply could not provide analysis during the game due to family emergency but he was there the entire week of practice making observations so he's got enough from the senior bowl to give thoughts on the prospects.

Correct... I guess I was making an obvious point, but there was a poster making arguments for a prospect here because Mayock said so. Anyway, he's still my favorite draft guru of the bunch.

I like him too. You can tell he does his homework and doesn't try to be a shock jock type saying things to get people talking.

I think he does a good job but I think he tends to lean towards the Ketchman old-school style too much. He likes the bigger running backs, falls in loves with guards and seems to prefer "safe picks".

McCoy is every bit as good as Suh. He had Alualu ranked as a late 1st/early 2nd pick. Ranking Robert Ayers as a top 5 pick (iirc) on the other hand...
I don't know about McCoy being better than Suh, but I would rather have him on my team for sure.

Wasn't Mccoy an all pro this year?

Let's not forget that Mayock isn't perfect with his RB rankings. Remember Mike Hart? The RB from Michigan? Indianapolis drafted him in 2008 and Mayock declared that he was going to be a winner. Hart isn't in the League any longer and never even played a full season.

That's not to unnecessarily pile on Mayock because everyone misses, but he's not infallible.

It's hard to overlook that most Big Ten running backs just have not panned out. Guys like Hart, Beanie Wells, Javon Ringer, Shonn Green, Marion Barber, Rashard Mendenhall have been average at best.
Add Mikel Leshoure and pretty much any Wisconsin running back since Alan Ameche.

Hold up... didn't Mayock love Gabbert? Trusting NFL.com is the last thing you should do.
I'm surprise Tre Mason is so low on his list.

Mason is the best RB in this draft. IMO
