I can't believe FBT and I are switching sides on this one, but drafting Byron wasn't the problem. As he used to point out, Leftwich's stats improved each year he was here and if his body wouldn't have fallen apart, the result might've been different. Shack's desperate attempt to prop him up with "reach" WR's was the problem.

Anything from BCC and Alfie usually is discarded quickly and rightly so. Garrard could've been developed as Brunell's successor and defense drafted subsequently and we'd have been fine. I disagree that he was a "one year wonder" as the OL and receivers fell apart in '08 and '09 and nobody was taking that offense very far from under center. 2010 he looked pretty solid to me and had a Gene Smith roster in a position to clinch the division before breaking his finger early in the Colts game.

I'll go with Soward as it was a deeply sour note in the midst of great success and seemed to be the first warning horn of an oncoming iceberg, although passing on Ben and Rodgers are certainly good answers
Garrard was a 1-read QB that couldn't make his progressions.  He had 1 magical year that was an aberration.  His one throw was the quick slant, usually to the  slot receiver, once defenses realized that, it was all over for Garrard. He could never be developed.  That's why it was a HUGE mistake to tie our future to him and then be so slow to get rid of him...

not getting Tebow

This thread is about the worst decisions the Jaguars have ever made, not the best.

Fixed.

Just to remind you that we essentially had 3 slot WRs on the field during the Leftwich era (R William, Wilford, M Jones).

What makes you think they were slot receivers?

How are any of those three natural slot receivers?

I'm thinking that he might mean "possession" Receiver.

I was thinking he meant #3, but in any case none of those guys were what would be considered prototypical "can't beat a jam but is good out of the backfield" guys. In fact just by their size I'm confident that the idea was for them to be quite the opposite and physically defeat their defensive backs at the line and down the field.

Hey I love Tim Tebow and everything he stands for and hope he gets back in nfl. Can we please quit with Jags not drafting or signing Timmy. It's so old news and annoying. I personally thought Timmy should of been 3rd rd pick not first.

The guy has no useable NFL skill at all. He shouldn't have been drafted at all.

Come on man he basically has played part of 1 season and led Denver to a playoff win. U can't do that without some nfl skill. 3 rd was my opinion before draft. I think Tebowmania and media are big part why he's not in nfl. Nobody wants that distraction in locker room and thats why I wouldn't want Michael Sam.

He was the only QB in the league worse than Gabbert that season. You're just kidding at this point, right?
Tebow is better then half the quarterback currently in nfl including,Gabbert,Henne,Jets and Raiders quarterbacks

I'm withholding judgment on Blackmon. Easily the Alualu pick or the Gabbert pick should be undone in recent memory. At least Alualu is an average starter in the league, can't say much about ole Gilbert.

Quote:Garrard could have been a good QB for the Jaguars. Had JDR and Harris given him a chance to develop instead of jumping the gun for Leftwich, he may have gone onto to build more confidence as a QB in the NFL. He reminded me a lot of Steve McNair and Donovan McNabb. And I'll never forget that game against the clots when he came in for a bit to relieve Brunell. He scrambled for a huge gain on one play, the defender grabbed his jersey, but he was so strong that he broke away from the guy and the defender was left with a piece of his jersey in his hand.

I read somewhere that's the reason why Coughlin drafted him was because he was built like McNair and for us to be able to compete with the tack clowns, we needed to draft Garrard.
As for a move I would undo it would have to be the drafting Soward and Nelson.

He's brutally awful and unemployed for good reason

Don't you have a pep rally to go to?  If you don't hurry the other three will start without you!
