With so much talk about quarterbacks this draft, I really had an unclear picture of what exactly Tom Brady looked like as a college quarterback at Michigan. I found this video compilation of Brady at YT, and started watching it with the idea that it might give me insight as to why he was picked so low, and what he demonstrated back in the day that all NFL teams missed out on.
Turn back the clock to the late 1990s Jaguars' fans, and, while we were most likely not paying attention to the college football world, Tom Brady was making his way through college.

All things considered, who in this draft reminds you of what you see in this Tom Brady flashback?
A little caution as this is a highlight reel of Tom Brady at Michigan. It does not include the ugly.
I hate to say it, but AJ McCarron.
He looks cool and collected, like he is now.
I think one of the bigger reasons why he dropped so low was his combine performance. He was dreadful. Everyone thought he was not athletic enough to be worth much.
I have watched this before, but for me its McCarron

Eh, difference being Brady can hang on and deliver throws in pressure...
Worlds difference when you look at it that way

So can McCarron? Nothing is wrong with McCarrons pocket presence or awareness,
I've always hated his dropback, but I suppose it buys times to find the open receiver.
I never watched him in college. Accuracy, velocity, and vision. Now which QBs have it? Seems like everything else is manageable.

You must not have seen his bowl game.

Umm, yes there absolutely is. Fortunately for him, he's had one of the two best olines in the NCAA for his whole career, because during the occasional games when he was facing pressure he looked really, really bad.

Oklahoma vs Bama, watch it
You must not know what pocket presence is if you consider that pocket presence

So Peyton Manning is a bad QB. Did you see the SB?
The two things that stand out to me about Brady is his accuracy and that he is one of the greatest competitors in the game at QB. He has always been a gamer. The bigger the game.....the bigger his performance. To give perspective from another sport.....tennis. I have 2 state and 1 national title under my belt. You can hit against players with amazing strokes, perfect form, great footwork, fast, powerful. The guys that make it in the pros and especially the top 5........they ALL have one thing in common. They are the BEST COMPETITORS. Players like Sampras, Agassi, McEnroe, Borg. They didn't have the best strokes in the game. Weren't the most powerful. They had an unbelievable will to win. Same with Brady. He's got "IT".

Different. Manning was going against a nearly flawless defense that knew his offense, with a less than stellar or healthy offensive line. Multiple fantastic edge rushers.
McCarron was up against a good but not great college defense, relied mostly on his running game, with a top two line in college football. Oklahoma doesn't have elite pass rushers, at least to my knowledge. I may be wrong.
Peyton didn't buckle under the pressure, he and his team were both outclassed and unlucky from the first play to the last. Alabama had the better team. I won't say McCarron lost them the game, but he did more harm than good.
Honestly? Teddy Bridgewater.
Quote:Honestly? Teddy Bridgewater.
I was trying not to bring that up, because then the Bridgewater haters come out the wood works on me hahaha

McCarron got lots of pressure put on him that game, wasnt much he could do in certain plays. Doesnt matter if they are elite or not if they beat the OT off the edge as soon as the ball is hiked. Alabama did not have the better team either. You cant go off just a players best game or a players worst game.

I watched the whole video and the only one that came to my mind was Teddy Bridgewater. Except for the fact that Teddy is more athletic.

The pocket presence, the appropriate amount of touch on his passes, clutch throw after clutch throw
I think Bridgewater was more athletic and more polished in terms of lower body mechanics
Saw some back heeled throws there but issue Brady had was coachable

I just want to know if there has ever been a QB more polished than Teddy? If so who?
