Why a dome in Florida? Awful idea. Use the heat to your advantage, or go the Seattle route and just cover the seats with a roof to help magnify the crowd noise.

It's not a dome, and that's what they are doing (the covering the seats like Seahawks thing). That part at the top is not an actual roof.

Of what?
Eventually, they're going to have to upgrade EverBank or build a new stadium.
Stadium issues are absolutely disastrous for teams and their cities.

Agreed...
My instinct are that Mr. Khan want his OWN stadium at some point within the near future. The contract of the city is delaying an new facility of his liking. I envision all of the upgrades of the city owned stadium to be an segway into his designed and solely paid for stadium...

This is a terrific idea. No more half sunburns!

Just a canvas is going to drop the temp in the stands. It would be interesting how much of an investment Mr. Khan already has made?
I wonder if we will get some wicked reverb off the stuff? Could be an advantage.

Definitely pretty awesome early concepts.
But as for a new stadium, I don't see it happening unless the team is a consistant playoff team. Looking at the direction this team is headed, that shouldn't be an issue, though.

Why would you want to own a stadium though? It's a huge tax burden on an individual, not to mention the maintenance and upkeep costs. You want the City to own the thing so that they take care of it for you, but you want a cut of the revenue so that you make money off of it.

Quote:Agreed...I doubt that, especially when you've got a very willing partner in the City of Jacksonville. They have a ton of flexibility in being able to renovate the existing structure to accomplish whatever his goal may be for the stadium. Any time the team has made mention of doing any sort of renovation work in the stadium, the city has eventually stepped up and found a way to share the costs involved. Why would any owner walk away from that kind of arrangement when he's getting pretty much everything he wants currently?

So when does something like this become a reality? A year? Five?
02-04-2014, 01:34 PM
I like the look. Would be nice to have some type of homefield distinction.

improvements are always a good thing. and to me, its nice to see he has a long term vision for the stadium in Jacksonville. that's gotta be a good thing. in and of its self.

Why not rebuild a new stadium instead of investing so much into one that will still probably need to be replaced in a few years??
02-04-2014, 11:55 PM
This is a great idea as they will never be able to sell the East side club seats without it. It will also help keep the temps down which will keep people in their seats during those hot games. I wonder if they can close that or is it always open?
Its just a tarp, with some modifications needed to secure it and new lighting. They could get it done this year if they had planned it and had the funding.

Because EverBank lends itself to renovations very well. The open, laid back bowl means there's plenty of space to add whatever you want.

Well, the tax payers would be paying most of it

Regarding taxpayers paying for it, wouldn't it fall under the same umbrella as the scoreboard renovations in that it is paid for by the bed tax? I have no idea.. just asking - as an aside - I think it would be awesome! Closest thing to a shade machine we will get in North Florida, and considering we were frying in December this year in the NEZ I am all for it. I will leave the logistics up to the professionals, but if they can make it work....
