Quote:I would love for Caldwell to draft Clowney. Then I would spend the rest of the week fretting that Clowney will lack the motivation it takes to succeed at the NFL level. I guess that is the way it works for all players that get drafted, but when motivation is a question mark to begin with there is an added element of concern. I think this draft is going to be huge for us, and Clowney being a rare talent I hope we can get him, and fear we will get him at the same time.

This is really spot on.

I think Clowney is the top talent in the draft, and I hope he's on the roster in 2014. That being said, I'm going to be freaking out about worrying that every time I open up a Training Camp report I'm going to see where it says "looks lazy".

Still want him on the team though.
Quote:Like I've said before..... Blaine Gabbert will soon become the voice of the Jacksonville Jaguars!!!

Didn't realize that we needed a new Jaxson DeVille.  Is the old one retiring?
Quote:Gabbert will win the starting job inthe preseason.  He's going to pull a 180.  He's matured. The fear in the pocket is gone. He will be a Tom Brady with a much stronger arm.  Breakout season, 4,000+ yards, 40+ TD passes, 68% completion.
Good Morning Mr Fan:

I am Randy Batterydown from HR, were here with Security to escort you for your voluntary urinalysis.

We will be needing a blood sample also.

HeadSlap
Well, it looks like they already met with Bridgewater, Manziel, and Bortles at the combine:

I would rank them in that exact order too but honestly I need to watch more Bortles tape.

We're going to take the guy who is highest on our board regardless of position. That being said I think we will be wanting to trade down. There are guys we could grab at QB later in the draft unless we feel one guy is a can't miss.

or "didn't show up" or "was late". He has the look of a guy that won't practice and bring excess baggage that we don't need especially with Justin's situation. We desperately need a stud pass rusher but I'd hate if we reached with that high of a pick for one even if he is the most talented. We did that with Blackmon at the #4 pick and we've gotten nowhere.

Clowney did 20 reps on the bench. That to me shows his lack of dedication. I mean for Gods sake Jay Cutler did more reps at his combine.  That's just the tip of the iceberg with Clowney's laziness IMO.

Jason Pierre Paul did 19 reps at the combine, and he turned out to be pretty good.

That said, I have more concerns about his motivation to play than I did before.

He explicitly stated he wanted Atlanta to trade up to get him.

Would he be happy playing in Jacksonville, which doesn't have the glitz and high profile Atlanta has?
Gus Bradley should be able to motivate  a guy like Clowney. Clowney has the potential to be a great player.

Not to mention he has very long arms, which gives him a relative disadvantage on something like bench press.

Not that it even matters, defensive ends don't get paid to bench press, they get paid to make QBs uncomfortable, and if he can do that then he'll be successful.
Clowney ran an unofficial 4.47 in the 40 yard dash and benched 21 times...

I've heard that the Texans will draft a QB because that is why they only had 2 wins, but with JJ on one side & him on the other

will they really passes up that opportunity same is true with the Rams..

If the Jaguars dont trade up, chances of Drafting Clowney are starting to diminish...

Sigh I hope Dave gets him though.

I just can't understand how you pass on that kind of talent if he's there at #3.

He's the Randy Moss of DE's. Coming out with some concerns about his work ethic and such, but that's the kind of talent that breaks league records.

What does it say about his.motivation if he runs an unofficial 4.47?

When asked Clowney basically said he was first out of high school, and he wants to be 1st out of College, and he would continue to be the best (pro bowl, MVP, hall of fame).  While none of that is certain, one thing is he's the undisputed best DE in this years draft.  The Jaguars have been the worst at the pass rush for almost a decade in the NFL with QB Luck, and who knows Teddy BridgeWater or Johnny Football in Houston getting at the QB will be important in the AFC South (as it is everywhere in the pass happy NFL)!

He was specifically asked about Atlanta and gave a more than generous answer. Lets stop making a big deal out of this.

He also said  he wants to go to Houston because he'd be the #1 pick.

ESPN and NFL Network are really making people dislike Clowney.

JPP has 8.5 sacks in the last two years...not exactly elite.  He is still young though.

He's had injury issues too. Really, he's been a one year wonder.

It's easy to talk about people and raise questions.

What would be more difficult would be to talk to them to actually answer those questions.

Only one of these makes for good ratings, though.
