Yup, massive backpedaling between post #6 and #11.

Not to mention, when the first stories started breaking about Gus, he dismissed them as "local Jax reports," when in fact they were from national outlets.

He's already pre-emptively thrown Gus under the bus.  Now, he's desperately dragging him out from under following these stories.  At least, until he throws him back under the Gus bus again.

What do you mean, specifically?
Dance, jester.  Just keep dancing.

Quote:Have a sip.

Fantastic
Met and got his auto at Senior Bowl (only auto I was out for lol). I'm glad we have him as our coach! Excited for our future!

Did he say the word competing, the phrase "keep getting better", or some variation?

I said last week that coaching this squad would be good for the Jaguars because players will want to play for him. That may be irrelevant in the draft, but when they come up for free agency, Jacksonville will become a more desirable option for some of the guys he worked with this week. It sounds like that enthusiasm may have had a more widespread impact than I initially thought.

This is good publicity for the team, and for Gus.

Not that I keep a running track of these things, but I found it interesting the players gave him a post game Gatorade shower...after a week at an all star game.

When has that happened before?

Obviously players love playing for him.

This team seems like it's going to be a lot of fun if they can give him talent to win consistently.
"A lion never roars after its first kill" is a pretty sweet quote, whether it's his or not. It was the perfect quote to use after that Titans game

It's just the Senior Bowl gig.

Nobody around the league thinks it's a good sign. It a sign of losing football games.

Good coaches all lose their share of games. Thoughts around the league are limited to will this guy be a permanent Senior Bowl fixture.

On the draft...

We do have some needs, obviously, and I think we're at the point now...we're still looking at the best players, the guys that fufill what we were talking about earlier...you know...the guys that are tough, love the game, and anybody that can come and help us get better...you know...Dave Caldwell and I will get together on that. He's obviously the guy - the leader in charge of that, but we'll make good decisions and this is just part of it.

Good job of completely missing the point.

I believe that our team has the 40% makeup of a winning team. You need the winning coach 40%, winning QB 30%, winning team 30%. Now you need to get the winning QB. I hope they can find one. It would be good if we find a Flacco type somewhere (if not the Mannings or  Bradys). I am sure Dave can find somebody who can atleast can lead the team. I am pretty confident we have the right coach here. Atleast we now know where to address. The stable coaching and the right coach creates trust among the players and will provide a positive breeding environment for winning football. This city truly deserves this and lets hope the Lord helps us on this endeavor.

This could be an opportunity for more of those "diamond in the rough" players choosing to sign here as UDFA's.

Have we actually hit on one of them in recent years?? I know they are usually popular around here, but not sure if we ever got a really good impact player out of any of them. Didn't Houston get Arian Foster that way? ANd the Cowboys Tony Romo. Giants - Victor Cruz.....I'd say THATS getting value out of UDFA's.

Yes, that IS getting value out of UDFAs.

I'd say "value" is also getting a stop-gap starter, like Russell Allen.  If we had another 3-4 Russell Allen types that were our backups/sometimes starters at non-premium positions, we would have a better team than we do.

But what's your point?  We haven't hit on those guys in recent years sooo?? We shouldn't sign any?  We shouldn't try?  We shouldn't hope one of them turns out to be that good?  Exactly what is your point?  It seems like you get butthurt any time a person says something with a hopeful undertone.

I actually like LaRoy Reynolds quite a bit from last year's crop.  He has very good speed and is a big hitter.  Hopefully he can turn into a better player than Russell Allen became.

Those guys stick out precisely because they are so rare.
Austin paztor and Cameron Bradfield were both UDFA's and they are both decent OTs.

Both are great examples of what teams seek from UFDAs. Nobody expects diamonds in the rough, they just hope to find them while filling holes with competent players.

TMD does.  Fire every GM that doesn't get pro-bowlers from UDFAs.

Don't talk in a hopeful way unless your team makes (in his opinion) perfect decisions.

That's why he spends so much time on a message board and doesn't earn a cent from what he supposedly knows about football. Keep that in mind, he will bother you less.
