Some writers, speculators and rumor mongers seem to think Mallet may be the best option for QB needy teams this offseason much like Alex Smith was the best QB available last season.
Is Mallet better than this year's best draft eligible QB prospect?
Franchise QB vs. Poop
Tough call
I personally like both but prefer Teddy. I just think his biggest asset is his knowledge of the QB position

I knew I wasn't alone with this one....
I'd say Mallett is the next best thing after Bridgewater as far as potential franchise caliber signal callers goes for this offseason, followed by Manziel then Bortles.

Lol, exactly.
I would take Bortles, Manziel, and Teddy all over Mallet. If we couldnt get one of them I would take Mallet though

I'd throw in Garoppolo and Mett without hesitation.
Bridgewater
Jimmy G
Mett
Murray
Bortles
heck even McCarron
over Mallett (I haven't seen enough to see if his pocket presence improved)
When I read the subject title I thought this thread would be related to the Mallett to Texans trade rumor.
If it was really a good idea to trade for Ryan Mallett, don't you think David Caldwell would have done that last year? His plan has always been to draft his own guy. If he wants a veteran backup, he will get that man after picking a starter in May. I would be shocked if he trades any picks to the Patriots because we need all of them.
Got any examples of people who think that Karnn? Mallett has shown literally zero development since he was drafted, and honestly looks like he has regressed. Time to give up the ghost on his franchise QB hopes.
Why would we want Mallett?
He has thrown 4 passes in the NFL for a total of 17 yards. One of his Four passes was an interception!
His passer rating is 5.2. If every attempt you made in the NFL hit the ground, you would have a passer rating of 39.5
Without having more playing time in the NFL to judge by, I would hope Caldwell wouldn't trade more than a 6th round pick for him. I don't see New England taking a 6th for him. If they did, then maybe it'd be worth the gamble. But right now, there's no reason to think that Mallett will be much of anything except he sat behind Brady. But he's not the only one who's done that.
Mallet is the next Matt flynn.
What about Osweiler? He's practically mallet. Unproven commodity.

For a guy who thinks arm strength is overrated you seem to have fallen for Mallet's big arm.

Flynn threw 6 touchdowns in one game.
Mallett hasn't thrown 6 passes in one game.

Referring to him being a huge FA bust but w/e

How have you come to the conclusion that he's regressed?? He hasn't been given any real opportunity to play since college.

Matt Flynn's arm is weak. Mallett's would probably be one of the strongest in the league.

I do believe its overrated. That doesn't mean that you dislike all QB that possesses good arm strength. I've seen Mallett make all the throws in college. From the bullets in tight windows to the over the shoulder touch passes.

We have seen him play probably a dozen quarters in the last two preseasons and his footwork, accuracy, and decision making are all still very subpar. Huge velocity and good size, nothing else. It's actually extremely disappointing since he has had two full seasons to sit and learn behind the master, because at one point I did quite like him. At some point you gotta let go though, even Gabbert has shown more flashes.

What QB (
including Brady) in the Patriots preseason games over the last several years has looked good?
