It may seem obvious the Texans are putting up a thick layer of smokescreen to some people, but is it possible to figure out what their objective is through all of the lies or find some of their statements are true?

Is it possible to know if the Browns are really interested in trading up and/or like Johnny Manziel?

I am sure there are other examples of possible smokescreen that may or may not be true, but those two stand out at me.

The Texans said:

1. We wanted Marcus Mariota before he decided to stay in school.

2. Our first pick will be a quarterback because we need one.

3. J.J. Watt could fix Jadaveon Clowney's work ethic issues.

4. All options are on the table, including trading our #1 pick.

5. Johnny Manziel is worth of the #1 pick and would fit well here.

6. Bill O'Brien wants a pocket passer in his offense, not Manziel.

7. We like Blake Bortles and think he is good enough to be #1.

Obviously, not all statements can be lies because of the contradictory statements about Manziel and keeping or trading the #1 pick. What do you think they want to do? It looks to me like you have to know what type of offense Bill O'Brien will install to figure out who their favorite quarterback is. The Clowney comments probably are to make a team call them about trading the pick.

The Browns said this: They are looking for a coach who would be willing to work with Manziel and want to trade up for him. But they also appear undecided about Manziel by saying they are focusing on him in their quarterback search. My guess: They want to leapfrog us for a quarterback and Manziel is one of the quarterbacks they like so it is a half truth, but the part about the coach search is a flat out lie. Do you agree?

You don't know. You just pick the best player on your board. The end.

Not all teams pick the BAP.
We won't know the difference till May

But we certainly can have fun guessing!
I dont think they even know who they want yet.  Thinks will change come the combine.  I kinda think Botles stock will even raise even more at the combine

We'll do our due diligence and hope the Texans make a mistake.

Lord knows they have in the past.  So have we, and the colts already screwed up their first round pick this year.

How do you know if it's a smokescreen?

It's a formidable scent.

It stings the nostrils.

In a good way.

I am sure we are not the only fans hoping the Texans make a mistake.

How did the Colts screw up their first round pick in a year that is only 22 days old?

Because they traded it away for Trent Richardson who is average at best.

These are not the players you are looking for...

The worst part of that trade is it gives the Browns ammunition to leapfrog us if what they said about doing that is true.

How do you know if the Browns are lying about Manziel? How do you know if the Texans think Clowney, Manziel, or Bortles would be the best pick for them?
If it's before the draft, it's a smokescreen, period.

Stupid question.

Stupider thread.

We don't.  That's why I made the vague reference to it all being a "Jedi mind trick".

Thing is, all the NFL teams will get pretty much the same info between the combine, interviews, and, in particular, the physicals.  We pick 3rd, so we know we'll get a good player.  If the Browns want to jump in front of us because they've fallen in love, I don't really care.

Now, if someone else falls in love with a player, and wants to jump in front of the Browns, now we're talking.  I am very interested in what we could get for the #3. As it stands now, I think Manziel will be available for the Browns at #4.  But if they want to drive his stock up, whether by smokescreen or actual desire, I sure don't mind.

I am in favor of anything that drives up the cost of jumping the Browns.
Who cares if the Browns leapfrog us?

Stupid Caldwell didn't trade for Richardson. We need a replacement for MJD that can average less than 3 yds per carry. It'll be hard to find

Anybody who knows they would do it for the same reason we leapfrogged the Rams in 2012. Somehow we knew the Rams wanted Justin Blackmon, so there must be a way to know which quarterback the Browns want.
