Haha, now I'm just being flattered. Thompson's been possibly my greatest personal hero since I was 16 years old.

That's probably the worst insult to Dennis Hopper one could possibly imagine.  I demand a retraction!  I had the pleasure of meeting "The Hopp" before his passing, and I'll have you know - his 'outside the box' thinking in no way compares to the delusions of the poster you've referenced!

Hopper was in many, many ways was .... THE MAN!!

Quote:OK, guys.  Let's not spoil a fun thread!   In the interest of fun -- can we please reflect on whether or not this is an actual picture of Tommy??

Who knew at the time that the two actors that would emerge from Easy Rider and go on to brilliant careers would be Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson, and Peter Fonda would be mainly known as the son and brother of much more accomplished actors?

True.  Wouldn't have guessed it at that point. Hopper said he had to convince directors and casting agents that he could be more than just a hippy after that role.

The character, man... the character (not Hopper himself)

He tells wild, incoherent tales that are sometimes (albeit rarely) laced with hidden wisdom.  Yes, Jungle Cat can surprise occasionally.

Ha-ha.  That's pretty good.

One wonders if, late in his career, he had to convince directors and casting agents that he could be more than just a lunatic or sociopath.

No doubt he was offered more of those roles than he cared for.  I'll be damned if  he wasn't great at it though.

The scene in true romance with Walken is pretty epic as well - and that character was only slightly looney.  But it's a Tarrantino script - so most of the characters are a bit wacko.

Walken always plays the villain role well.
