Probably the association doesn't allow them for aesthetic reasons.

Oh, that makes sense.

Words not usually used when talking about home owners associations!

They're definitely a double-edged sword. Fortunately I have one that isn't overbearing. The stories I've heard from others, though.

We've got historic guidelines we have to deal with...but no HOA crap. I'm okay with that.

That is not the problem. Condominium associations prohibit TV satellites.

Some things in the floor plans make no sense, but Mom only needed permission for getting a solar tube and major backyard work that required a jackhammer.

It's good that your HOA isn't a pain to deal with. I've heard horror stories from people before about them!

I have read some horror stories in news articles. You know my HOA is not too bad when people can display American flags because I read about one that bans them.

But the inability to get DirecTV is killing me because of the Cox monopoly in Gainesville.
I did a web search just to see if I can find anything. Apparently if I lived in a different part of Gainesville, I could get Comcast. Why can't Comcast be available in my area? It looks like I have a choice until I type in my zip code. It should be both companies serve the whole city, not they stake claims on certain zip codes.

If I could drive and live alone, I would move to an area served by Comcast.

Don't get too excited...Comcast isn't much better! They did the same thing to my mother as Cox did to yours, told here they would be there at a certain time, over the weekend, only to be told after the appointment had passed that there never had been one scheduled at all.

Does Comcast also make the landline useless? Now I have my TV fixed, but the phones don't work and Cox needs to come back out.

I would be totally shocked if you have to hold down the power button four seconds on any other company's remote control. I never had to do that in Ohio.
Someone told me only one industry is allowed to have monopolies: utilities. That means electric, gas, water, and telephone. Now I am confused. The same company that I get phone service from also set up my TV and Internet service, which are not regulated by Florida's Public Services Commission. So cable companies can't monopolize if they only offer TV and Internet service, but can if they also work with landline phones? The problem with that is all of them do it now. Gone are the days when people had one company for phone, another for TV, and a third for Internet.

If federal law is allowing this, President Obama should get a letter from me. I will never understand what benefit the monopoly serves to Cox and Comcast customers.

Government isn't meant to serve the customer, its meant to put a boot on your neck and shut down industry and let the winners and losers be chosen by who can grease the right peoples pockets.  Hope that helps.

What people are telling me is the monopoly is the government's fault. So I am thinking govenrment is who I need to complain to.
I'm sorry. Me and my 100 Mbit/sec connection that worked within one hour of installation must have wandered into the wrong thread. A thousand apologies.

Wife was watching that house hunters international show last night and they ended up in the Netherlands, couldn't believe the prices on houses. It was 3,000 a month to RENT 2-3 bedroom homes, is it like that everywhere in the Netherlands ?
Verizon was the best cable/internet company I've used, so stable in the 2 years I've had it, and the bill stayed flat and due dates didnt jump. Cant wait for them to make it out here in N fl

My friend has Verizon for his Internet. He said the username must have a number. That looks stupid to me.

Are you sure north Florida will get it?
