Yeah. House is gone. His poor play coupled with his incongruent salary basically demand he moves on.

Odrick is overpaid, but at least he's fringe starter material so no real need to cut him, unless the team decides to change scheme and switch to a 3-4 or something.  His salary jumps to $7.5 M next year so he's not someone you would pay that much to be a backup, not when both Marks and Alualu are just as good and cost signficantly less.

Skuta will likely not be here next season.  Total bust and easily replaced in the lineup by Myles Jack.  Skuta simply doesn't make plays and can't stay healthy.

Julius Thomas probably comes back next year.  TE is deep in the 2017 draft and with Koyak and Sterling playing better, the new coaching staff might decide to go with youth at the position.  But there is no reason to cut Thomas before the season starts anyway.  If anything, you cut Lewis as he's way past his prime and no longer productive.

Henne is overpaid as a backup, so don't see him being brought back at all.  He's worse than BB5 so the Jags will likely try and bring in a better veteran QB to provide competition, plus a late-round QB in the draft to compete with Allen for the backup position.

House will likely get cut and his cap savings used to pay to re-sign Prince.

The real question is whether or not they re-sign Cyprien.  He's had a better season, and with Joke almost certainly being let go in free agency, Cyprien is the only player really left out of that draft class.

One other thing counting against Odrick is going to be the "hopefully" emergence of Day and Bennett this offseason.  Both of them would provide young, cheap, talented play along the D-line, and with Odrick not really being much of a  playmaker, it could make him even more expendable.  Between Odrick and Jackson you'd have upwards of $20M tied up in the DT position, which also happens to be very deep in the draft.

If the Jags are prudent and set aside some of the cap room to re-sign Smith, A-Rob, Lee, Linder, Cyprien (maybe), that $80 M would go away a lot faster than you think.

And as much as I think Alualu was overdraft, he's always healthy, not too expensive, and plays solid.  He's not a playmaker by any means, but he does provide veteran depth for a young team.

Quote:It didn't work out in the win column, but it did acquire talent for the next coaching staff.

Ramsey, Jackson, Amukamara and Gipson were all very strong additions.  (even though Amukamara was a short term signing due to injury history)

I really feel that Bortles' inability to progress (he Regressed)  and the failure of the staff to get consistent disciplined play from their roster stole away any ground made in the 2016 offseason acquisition process.

I agree, 2017 could be the year of improvement. I'm just not getting overly hopeful after seeing this team fail for the last decade.

The two big issues in 2016 were the QB play and the atrocious turnover differential. You can't win with those two strikes against you. (The running game could be added, but there's been a nice resurgence there in the last few weeks. The team is up to 22nd in yards per game and 16th in yards per attempt)
Please..... just get us a coach....a GOOD coach that can sort all this out.

I'd love to use that money to make a run at Chandler Jones and Kevin Zeitler in free agency. Land an edge pass rusher and in interior offensive lineman.

Go ahead and cut that number in half after extending Smith, Linder, Arob, Lee.  O and Colvin

I wouldn't entertain extending them until their current contract is up. Maybe Linder, but he's our best O-Lineman. All of the other guys need to step up their game if they want to be extended.

Telvin can only "step up" so much. He needs to be locked up immediately.

He's not going anywhere.

Smith will command top money,  coming off a down year is the perfect time to get Arob for cheaper.  Lee hasn't done enough to get good money so its a good time for him too.

I'm not sure A-Rob deserves the money. He's going to have to prove that he deserves it. I don't want to extend him and then have him perform in 2017, like he has this season. That would be wasted money. I'd rather pay more later and make sure he can get back to his 2015 form.

Smith is limited by his size. There are certain schemes he is too small for, so his options will be limited. We can wait and negotiate with him later in the 2017 season.

You run into the issue of him wanting to test free agency if you do that, the way he has been whining about our fans and everything I wouldn't expect he would want to be back, especially if we "disrespect" him by not paying this year.  Just know he isn't a 1400 yard 14 td guy every year and more of a 1100 6-10 td guy on average and pay him like that.

What if he expects to be paid like a 1400 yard 14 TD guy? Besides, we can always slap the franchise tag on him if he goes back to his 2015 form and doesn't want to re-sign.

Who cares what he expects?

If he wants to get paid like a perennial all pro, he has put out like a perennial all pro. If he has up and down seasons, he will get paid like he has up and down seasons.

It's not up to him to decide he should get paid at a higher level than he has performed. if it worked that way, every player would be getting the biggest contract in the league every time they sign.

Yeah, right. Once he's playing for Dallas, New England, the Saints or the Hawks he'll be more than that every year.
We're going to need it with signing a new HC. We're going to have to overpay a lot to bring someone here; even Coughlin too. Also, a lot of that was set to extend Blake, ARob, and party. I don't know if we'll be doing that now. Also, we definitely need to cut JT, Odrick, Skuta, possibly House (although he's good depth as the 3 or 4), and possibly Gipson; who I'm very disappointed in production wise. I thought he was going to be our best sign this past FA, but he hasn't brought a whole lot. Although, a different system may help him, I don't know if he's the guy.

JT, Odrick, Skuta, and House are all good candidates to cut next year, but Gibson has been pretty decent.  He's missed a few interceptions, but the pass defense has definitely improved with Gibson, Prince, and Ramsey in the secondary.

In fact, it might be the best secondary we've field since the days of Aaron Beasley and Donavon Darius.

Have never understood that "we'll have to overpay to bring someone here; even Coughlin". Really? He'll being deluged with offers? I don't think so.

There are only so many available slots. When they've offered, you take it.
Since when do coach salaries matter to cap space?
