Why do people on here want him as our next qb if we don't get on in the first round? I feel like he's a product of a system and as a qb prospect he don't do anything well besides managing the game. He's screams Alex Smith to me but maybe someone can educate me on him.
Why do you think he is a product of the system and just a game manager? He was the Heisman Trophy runner-up and holds multiple school passing records.
Major red flag that he declined his senior bowl invite tonight. He knows he doesn't stack up to the other QBs and would be embarrassed without his all-NCAA teammates surrounding him.

Ouch.
Whelp....drop him down to a day 3 pick and (2nd QB at best) for me.

There could be another reason not to go. Declining an invitation does not always mean a player is afraid of looking bad. Some players decline it to stay healthy for the combine. Are you sure AJM has decided not to go to Mobile just because he is not as good as other quarterbacks who will be there?

I've been saying he's a day 3 pick and merely a quality backup QB ceiling all along.

Umm...because he is?
He holds school records because Alabama isn't known for QBs.

Brodie Croyle, and John Parker Wilson has done similar things as him under the same structure with nick saban. They also had alot of NFL talent around them to help their success.

There must be a way to know if he is. What do you see when you watch him that screams "product of the system"?

He isn't asked to take over a game and win it with his arm. All he is there to do is hand the ball off and not turn it over.

He hasn't declined it. That was a rumor started by Gil Brandt that got debunked by his mom. Nobody actually knows if he'll go except him and his family.

Uh, NOPE. Did you even watch those two when they were there? Not to mention that Croyle was gone before Saban got there. Also, most of the Bama passing records were damn near laughable when JPW broke them due to the school being heavy on RBs being featured and rarely getting any QB that could throw worth a crap.
McCarron is infinitely better than Croyle and JPW, but he's not an NFL QB. I'd much rather take a project with an unlimited ceiling like Mettenberger than waste a pick on a borderline talent who has pretty much reached his ceiling.
Mettenberger is basically Leftwitch. Where's this "unlimited ceiling" stuff coming from?
"Unlimited ceiling" is definitely a bit of an exaggeration on my part, but the general point that I'd take a project with a high ceiling over a borderline finished product any day stands.
Mettenberger definitely has the throwing talent to be a quality starter in the league. Sure, his mobility sucks, but I don't think that necessarily means he's Byron Leftwich. I don't think McCarron has the talent to be a starter in the league.

So why did Gil Brandt say he did? I never thought of him as a bad reporter.

I don't really see a high ceiling with Mettenberger. He's got a gun for sure, but he's slow in the pocket(plus he's coming off an injury to his already bad knee) and at scanning the field and often trusts his arm more than he should like Matt Stafford(who he also shares the trait of making a LOT of bone-headed decisions with). I don't think he's terrible since he's better than guys like Boyd and Murray, but I have a hard time seeing him as a starter unless the team he's drafted by can provide a rock-solid OL that'll keep him up-right and clean.

Gil reported a rumor he heard from a "source". Happens all the time on Twitter. AJ could still decline the invite, but as of now he hasn't.
Draft him in the 7th round, the next Tom Brady.
If you wouldn't draft him in the 1st (maybe early 2nd) then he isn't a franchise QB. Plain and simple.

Since you wrote it in big letters its gotta be true
