The more I watch, the more I like it. He's a little raw, but not Gabbert-raw. He has a lot of good things going for him: good arm, good size, accurate, good pocket presence, good under pressure, won't force it, steps into his throws. He runs the PA well under center. I'd say his deep ball could use a little work and just needs to adjust to the speed of an NFL defense.
Quote:He just said he is a hot name among scouts and under the radar, Mel Kiber has Jonny Manzel as the 2nd best QB and says he will go mid first.
Bortles isnt the type of QB Gus Bradly and Jedd Fish wants anyways, they want a mobile QB,and Bortles is just a big pocket passer.
obviously you've never seen him. Converted WR/TE. He moves exceptionally well. His mobility compliments his pocket passing ability. Still not sure how I feel about him but he is very mobile
Quote:Did you write it yourself? I hope it wasn't permanent marker I don't think he'll like that very much.
No, Gil Brandt did. He wrote because Jadaveon Clowney is a slacker in practice, he needs a very tough position coach to stay motivated or will bust out due to lack of effort.

If his deep ball needs a little work, how can you say he has a good arm?

Did he use permanent marker? Do you know if Clowney is ticklish too?
Let's just play it safe and draft Hingle McCringleberry...

I was referring to the deep ball accuracy. His arm strength is fine.

That guy is a 15 yard penalty every time he scores.

Very good observation but you can't deny the kid will sell tickets and....he scores!

I'd say his deep accuracy is possibly his best trait. Certainly not a weakness at least.

<p class="">For reference, I have Bridgewater with 50% comp on 20+ yard throws through all games and that's good. Bortles ridiculous so far

In high school he was always a double pump guy, not until college did he pick up the third pump habits, probably because all of the girls watching.
With some tough NFL coaching I think we can get him back to double pump status.
Love me some McCringleberry!

Does he have Carr? Would be interested in his stats as well.

Hmm...I need to watch some more games then. I was most recently watching the game against South Carolina and he didn't seem to wow me with his deep throws. I recall one throw where he had a guy in the endzone behind the defense and underthrew him for an INT.

You've never seen him play. Gotcha.
If Cleveland trades ahead of us for Bortles, and why wouldn't they? They've got more ammunition than us in picks and their need for a QB like the Texans is far greater than passrusher. We'll get a king's ransom for Clowney and take Mack

That's why forming opinions based on SSS (small sample sizes) can be so damaging. I don't even consider forming an opinion on someone until I've seen a good half a season's worth of games.
Wish that people would remember that especially during bowl season...

Not yet, so far he's only done Bortles and Teddy. He said he will have all of his top 10 QBs passing charts and some comments on each by the end of February. I'll update my passing chart topic on here as he releases them.

I watched several of his games. I don't think his deep accuracy sucks or anything, but I saw him make mistakes on those throws more than anything. He doesn't seem to get rattled easily though, and those mistakes don't happen often. I think he's a good prospect and wouldn't be upset if we took him at 3.

There are many reasons the Browns would not trade up for Blake Bortles, including Johnny Manziel. But they would trade with the Rams to leapfrog us, knowing we also need a quarterback.
