With apologies to anyone who might have already done this thread in the past, and realizing it probably isn't necessary ( but then neither is another 'Bortles sucks', 'fire Gus' thread ), who does everyone consider the top 10 Jaguars busts?  Project a few if you like.

Some names to consider:

Bryce Paup

Hugh Douglas

RJ Soward

Blaine Gabbart

Blackmon

Dave Caldwell's 2017 1st round pick

etc...
Gene Smith

Gus Bradly

Even if this thread was created in the past, there is absolutely nothing wrong with recreating it, since the list of busts grows annually anyway.

Caldwell's ENTIRE first draft. Not a single draft pick will be on the roster in 2017.

You almost have to separate it into draft vs free agency because the list is so big on both sides.

It would be far more efficient (not to mention 'uplifting') to instead list all the Jaguars successful players. I've no doubt the 'positive' list is much shorter than the long list of disappointments that can be named.

The list of busts is far longer than the list of hits

C'mon now.... 5th, 6th round selections can't be considered busts...

I constantly go back to Harvey and Groves. This team really was close at the time and we mortgaged a draft on two pass rushers that didn't pan out.

Gabbert is a close 2nd (or 3rd).

I always factor in trading up as making a pick that doesn't work out that much worse. Since it cost multiple picks.

Gene has yet to make this boneheaded trade up scenario.

Though he missed just the same.
1) Gabbert

2) Harvey

3) Soward

4) Blackmon

5) Who Douglas

6) Joeckel

7) Porter

8) Matt Jones

9) Paup - Even though we didn't use him well

10) Reggie Williams
Draft-wise:

1. Blaine Gabbert

2. Justin Blackmon

3. Derrick Harvey

4. Byron Leftwich

5. Reggie Williams

6. R. Jay Soward

7. Luke Joeckel

8. Quentin Groves

9. Bryan Anger

10.  Matt Jones

No love for the Aaron Kampman pipe dream?
1. Derrick Harvey - Gave up a lot to get him. 8.0 career NFL sacks in less than 50 starts I believe. Last rookie to sign his deal too in 2008.

2. Blaine Gabbert - Gave up a 2nd round pick to move up to get him. Never looked like an NFL caliber QB in the pocket. Played like a coward.

3. Justin Blackmon - Teased us with potential more than Reggie and Matt ever did but couldn't overcome his demons off the field.

4. Reggie Williams - One good year in the red zone but never cracked more than 60 catches or 650 yards in a single season. He was another pot head.

5. Matt Jones - Lazy and got by with just pure athletic ability. Couldn't overcome his demons but could have been a solid player for years to come.

6. Blake Bortles - Not looking good future wise. Too many turnovers. Heavy regression this season. May never recover.

7. Luke Joeckel - 2013 had a weak first round class but he's now finished up on IR twice in his four years here in Jacksonville. Never lived up to his status.

8. R.J Soward - Another kid with the off the field demons he couldn't overcome. Doesn't sting as bad Matt, Reggie and Justin though now in our overall history.

9. Tyson Alualu - Good man on and off the field. Not really his fault he was over drafted by a whole round. But it hurts to see him with only 17.5 career sacks. Especially when we passed on Jason Pierre-Paul who has 50.0 career sacks and also Earl Thomas who has been a pro-bowl caliber FS for years now.

10. Byron Leftwich - As ugly as his mechanics and footwork were from the pocket. He's the only first round QB to ever be drafted by this franchise and leave Jacksonville with a winning record (24 - 20) during his tenure here in Jacksonville. Bortles and Gabbert combine for (15 - 53) during their tenures here.

I came in here hoping this thread was about the Roar.

Cordell Taylor warrants serious consideration.   He only lasted one season with the Jaguars and 2 seasons in total in the NFL.
10) Cordell Taylor - A first day pick who didn't even play a full season's worth of games during his stay in Jax. While Mike Logan (who was drafted a year earlier) wasn't all that great of a DB, at least he played in more games.

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">9) Renaldo Wynn - Only had 27 sacks in his career - not too bad...if he was a late round pick or a DT. Problem was, he was a DE and was the 21st overall pick in the 1997 draft.

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">8) Reggie Williams - While he did put up decent numbers for a time, he never lived up to being a top 10 pick. To quote a certain someone on ESPN's 1st Take - "He couldn't stay off the WEEEEEEEEEED..."

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">7) Andre Branch - A few folks had projected him to be a 1st round pick. Those few were way off base. Almost like Renaldo Wynn, except he couldn't stop the run.

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">6) Bryan Anger - Picking a punter in the 3rd round is bad enough. Picking an AVERAGE-AT-BEST punter in the 3rd round is worse.

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">5) Justin Blackmon - Talentwise, he lives up to his draft status. However, he choose WEEEEEED over football, which got him more suspensions than I can count. He never played more than 2 seasons worth of games.

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">4) Matt Jones - He was drafted in the 1st round as a WR - with no experience prior at said position. Then there's the nickname that was given to him - "Coke Zero".....

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">3) Derrick Harvey - Hands down the WORST defensive player the Jags ever drafted. 8 sacks in just around 3 seasons? That doesn't even cut it for a late round pick, let alone a top 10 pick.

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">2) Blaine Gabbert - He played scared all three years in Jax. Granted, he was dropped into the worst circumstances that any QB can be dropped into, but his pocket presence was bad even before he was drafted. Hell, it was bad even before he was recruited by Mizzou. He would have been #1 on this list, but at least he played more than one season and didn't have a bad attitude, which brings us to.......

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">1) R. Jay Soward - This piece of garbage not only was trouble coming out of USC, but he was non-productive when he hit the league. This fool wouldn't even come to practice unless Tom Coughlin sent a limo to pick him up from his home to take him there. To this day, he remains the only player Tom Coughlin failed to properly mold into a solid player....but that says far more about Soward than it does Coughlin. The worst part? He he only recorded 14 catches for 154 yards and 1 TD - for his CAREER. He is basically the equivalent of the NHL's Alexandre Daigle, who is currently known as the worst NHL draft pick ever in 1993.

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">'Dis'- Honorable mention - Dwayne Gratz, Eben Britton, Khalif Barnes, Mike Pearson (the OT), Larry Smith, Will Rackley, Luke Joeckel

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Note: I'm only counting players drafted by the Jaguars. That said, if I were to count more, Gene Smith would be #1 six hands down

Gene Smith and Blaine Gabbert by far !!

Still trying to figure out what analytics the front office was using when they targeted a white RB to be our Primary RB for the years to come.

Just my opinion, but I really don't think Leftwich belongs on a a list of all-time Jaguars busts.

Gabbert set this franchise back a lot more than Harvey did.

He actually fit in here pretty well given the fact that nobody could pressure the QB
Bortles has to be in the top 10.
Blackmon by far for me.
