I think this is the best situation the Jags could have for a qb. So we lose out on Teddy. I am starting to warm up to the idea of Johnny Football as a Jag. Think about it. Our team has not fared well with a strict pocket passer qb. They have no time with our line. Plus if you wanted to get weapons for our great receiving core. Providing Blackmon is allowed to play again. Who better then Mr. Football to lead the team to its first ever super bowl.
Imagine creative Jed with a versatile qb who could actually throw. Who unlike Bridgewater can really move if have to and excite the fan base. Who wouldn't come to the games and watch Johnny football light it up. Plus adding him we gain a ton of texas football fans. So if |Caldwell decides Johnny can focus and be the guy. I am all for it.
But I would not frown on teddy or Clowney as well. I don't believe teddy here would strive. He would have no time to throw the ball. Until we fix the line problems. And Jax really cant handle another losing season in a row. Enough is enough.
i dont understand how a lot of people sees manziel as a possible top 5 pick. i like him as a prospect and respect his game but theres no way in hell i would spend a top 5 pick on him, especially not top 3. clowney in the first johnny in the 2nd that i can be on board with.
There might be a run at QB in the first,so Jags might need to draft him high

Coming from a guy with Derek Carr in his avatar.... I wouldnt pick Carr in the 7th round.
Totally agree with OP. I wouldnt mind Clowney or Barr with the pick, I just think Manziel would be a home run. He has all the tools, idc how tall he is, Russell Wilson and Drew Brees have proven that doesnt matter. Manziel is a leader who will give this team a swagger it needs.
Manziel is David Garrard without the experience running anything but a gimmick offense. No thanks.

There have been like a million Garrard comparisons between so many college QB's, apparently we have missed him much more than anyone thought we would. Manziel, Boyd, I think I even saw people comparing Hundley to him.
Actually my point was we don't need another mediocre QB.
I honestly don't get the Manziel love at all.

Me either.

He's a flashy Heisman trophy winning QB from the SEC. He is the guy the SEC bros. in Jacksonville love.
Manziel is your typical Boom/Bust guy. I just don't see him being a legit NFL quarterback. He's great at scrambling at the college level, but he's not particularly fast -- more crafty than anything else. It's not an RG3 situation where he's a world-class athlete.
I would love to see a cutup of Manziel's red zone situations, to see if he can stand in the pocket, go through his progressions quickly, and throw the touchdown. The scrambling ability is nice and exciting, but he's not going to be nearly as effective with that stuff in the NFL.
I think Manziel will be similar in his career to Tebow and Vince Young. He'll go somewhere. Make some crazy runs, sell some jerseys and get on Sportscenter. He'll get hyped, his team may win some games. But ultimately he won't be a franchise QB and he will get traded somewhere to be a backup and then be out of the league.
I'm a little leery at this point of any QB in the first aside from Bridgewater or Bortles. Maybe I'll come around to another one later.
Creative Jed and Manziel as a top 5 pick in the same post...lol?
Manziel would make for interesting local sports radio but thats about it, don't want to see him as a jag.
As much as I want a Quarterback, I really hope it's not Manziel. I don't think his talent transitions into that of an NFL Quarterback. If Caldwell takes him, I'll hope I'm wrong on that. I think Manziel is one of the few QB's that if taken wouldn't excite me.

The only reason you're starting to warm up on Johnny Football is because we have no shot at Teddy.
Would you be warming up to the idea of drafting Manziel if the Jags had the first crack at Bridgewater? Doubt it.
I'd rather draft mike Evans at 3 than Manziel

I think Teddy is the better of the two from a "pro" ready standpoint. But, I definitely think Johnny Football has all the things you look for in a QB.He can make all of the throws, His deep ball accuracy is quite amazing and he doesn't need an amazing O-line to be successful. Besides I think the tradition of "pro" style QB's will eventually not be the standard in the NFL.
Although I would prefer Teddy. I think we cannot exclude Manziel, he'll be interesting to watch till May

If I had to name something about Manziel that I liked as a QB prospect it would be his knack for big play ability. That is something that we are and have been sorely missing from the position, probably going to as far back as the pre-knee injury Brunell days.
