The Jags likely already know who the pick will be at #3. Free agency choices will play a big part in our selection at #39, don't be surprised to see interior offensive line at this pick.

Jeez picking 39......smh......

All those teams will be picking ahead of us in the 2nd round. Its almost as if we had the bad season for nothing. We not only miss out on the top 2 picks overall, but then get shoved way back in the 2nd round.

If this is how you act in real life, you have some issues.

In this thread, you can choose to talk about who the team might select with the 39th pick or just complain the team doesn't have the 38th pick. Not surprised what you chose.

Not sure how you cannot be disappointed at how this all shook out.

How would they know who they are gonna pick, we havent even had the combine or the Sr. Bowl, and we dont know who is going 1st or 2nd

In life, you can complain about where you are even when you can't change it or do the best you can with what you have.

This team has fared decently with the 39th pick. IIRC, Rashean Mathis was 39th overall. I think Daryl Smith was somewhere around 39, too.

The thing is, if we are waiting until the 2nd round to get the QB, we'll likely have to trade up to get him. The good news is that we have the ammo in the later rounds to move up.

However, there is another possibility.

With a possible glut of first round passers, many of the 4-12 teams will pick QBs in that first round, thereby taking themselves out of the market for a second round passer.

He's just one of those pessimistic, glass-half-empty, the sky is falling, woe is us, yeah...but, why me type of individuals. He's the depressed guy you see drinking by himself in the corner of a room at a given party. I wouldn't be surprised if a violinist follows him around and performs any time he opens his mouth.

When it comes to the 39th pick, there will be a ton of options. Maybe one of the big-three tight ends will fall to the pick, the guard out of Stanford, or one of the passrushers. There will be some talented guys on the board.
Another guy to watch at 39 is Beasley from Clemson.. He compares to Bruce Irvin.. would be a nice fit at Leo if Bradley likes him.

A guy like Clinton-Dix or even Moseley could fall to the 2nd round also. Not to mention Jace Amaro or Ebron. Out of the ones I've named here, I guarantee you at least 1 will be available when we pick in rd 2

I would bet the top three players are set on Dave's board. The combine and Sr. bowl are unlikely to change it. One of those three players will be the pick.

After rereading my post it was a bit confusing.

Second round is a good spot to get a linebacker. Lavonte David, Bobby Wagner, Mychal Kendricks are all recent second rounders.

Beasleyy would be my dream second round pick, next to ASJ. HIs burst off the line is unmatched by any player in this draft, Clowney included.

I dont see us drafting ASJ.. he's basically a Marcedes Lewis. We already have that on this roster - we could just restructure Lewis' deal and we got the same player - or just pay him what he's getitng paid.

I think Ebron would add another dimension to our offense.

I think that the Raiders and Browns are the only other (4-12) teams who would take a QB early, and the Raiders really seemed to like Pryor this year. If they change staff there then they might want a new guy. The Rams, Falcons and Bucs aren't going to draft QB in the top 10 at this point. I'd say it's Texans, Jags and Browns for QBs early.

Whatever teams that pick a qb in round one likely won't pick one in round two, and may be willing to trade down to #39. Trading up in the 2nd round isn't that costly. So pass rusher+qb or qb + non premium position still possible.

Agreed. I'd love to see them take a pass rusher (Barr?) in the first and pick up Murray in the second.
recent 39th overall selections:

Geno

Janoris Jenkins

Arrelious Benn

Eben Britton

Chilo Rachal

Justin Blalock

Akeem Ayers

What's really intriguing is players selected later in the second round from those years.

MJD, D. Hester, Greg Jennings, LaMarr Woodley, Ryan Kalil, Eddie Royal, Matt Forte, Fred Davis, DeSean Jackson, Calais Campbell, Jarius Byrd, Connor Barwin, LeSean McCoy, Sebastian Vollmer, SenDerrick Marks, Rob Gronkowski, Toby Gerhart, Carlos Dunlap, Sean Lee, Golden Tate, Kyle Rudolph, Shane vereen , Torrey Smith, Randall Cobb, Kiko Alonso, LeVeon Bell, Eddie Lacy

That ^ is a pretty nice list of good football players. They were all picked in the second round later than #39 between 2006-2012.

There WILL BE a good player available at #39. No doubt. You just have to decide if you believe Caldwell will pick the right guy.

Thats one thing I noticed watching the Eagles last night. Nick Foles, Lesean McCoy, Desean Jackson, Riley Cooper, Brent Celek, Mychal Kendricks, Brandon Boykin. Alot of their key guys were picked in the second round and later. You hit those picks and you get a winner.
