Quote:Food in general is only going to keep going up in cost. I know me and the wife this year started a vegetable garden, this next year we plan on doing some fruits and herbs in addition to the veggies, and MY goal is to buy some chickens and MAYBE a pig to raise for meat!

It's a lot of work but I enjoy it and it's rewarding eating something you grew or raised.

Lol, you better move to a farm.  I raise herbs and I have a lemon tree now.

Not too sure about raising animals and killing.  I would get too attached.  The price of chicken and other meat is sky rocketing.  The food budget continues to go up and up.
Quote:They have delivery for sit down restaurants....way to take it to the next level homebiscuit.

Wouldn't work.....the (McDonalds) food is already not hot by the time they serve it to you at the store itself....I can't imagine how cold it would be by the time it got to the delivery customer.

Thats what I was thinking. I couldn't do it.

And it will continue to rise as long as our government supports the ethanol scam.
In other fast food news...apparently Burger King delivers now?

I'm on 5 acres

edit: I'm not on the 5 acres today, but that's where we plan on raising the livestock. we have 5 acres that we are moving onto in april next year.

Quote:So you are going to force other parents not to eat at Mcdonald's or other fast food joints?  You are going to force people and not let them make personal choices?

The government has done that enough for me, no thanks.

Edit:  The side I brought to my parents yesterday was spinach.  How healthy of me.

Where did that even come from? Nobody has said that.

You asked if we should just accept it.  How else do you plan on changing the way millions of people live?

All I said was their food is garbage. For some reason, that offended you.

McDonald's on employee resources site: Not lovin' it

It seems that McDonald's has finally realized how tone-deaf its internal employee resource website was. It has shut it down.

Quote:the kids can't buy the food, the parents feed it to them. I don't fault McDonald's for fat kids or adults, I fault the individual (talking to myself as well, I'm a big guy).

They should be faulted for marketing crap food to children.

why? it's not their responsibility to make sure all the kids in America eat a balanced meal. Should we tar and feather ice cream companies as well? responsibility is on the individual or the guardian in the case of children not the company that makes a legal product.

I could see your point if they where producing a product that was illegal for children to consume such as tobacco or alcohol but there's nothing illegal about burgers and fries.

I'm not saying McDonald's has a legal obligation. But a moral one. They market terrible food towards young children in hopes that they get them hooked at a young age. They then get an obese customer for life.

Get them hooked?  That's a little hyperbolic, don't you think?  Besides, where do the parents fit into this conspiratorial equation?

Morals are subjective, even if you accept that argument fast food is addicting. I don't do McDonalds all that often, I know its not good for me, I'm already a heavy guy and I don't want my kids to deal with weight but that's on me not McDonalds for offering it.

Hyperbole or not it's the exact strategy they use. It's why they put toys into Happy Meals and why there are playgrounds at most McD sites.

Of course the parents' responsibility should be factored into this whole thing but McD's marketing strategy is very much strat the whole chain of events.

You didnt answer the question that was raised to your point.

I also have never argued that their food wasnt good.  My point was that everyone says their food is garbage, but somehow they continue to bring in millions in profits.  Where in this thread do I seem offended?  I'm discussing points with you that you have gladly replied to and discussed.
Quarter Pounder with cheese, mmmmm...

I'm going to have to stop my kid from watching Saturday morning cartoons.  I cant afford all those toys they advertise.

Yep, and I loudly applaud their brilliance.  If I'm going to sell fast food, that's exactly how I'd do it.  Free Will, meet Free Market Economy.  Laziness and Sloth, meet Health Issues.  Seems real simple to me.
