Quote:I think it depends on his combine. He has had some injury concerns this season, as well as some concerns about his speed. If he is able to fix those issues, he could be the second rated WR behind Watkins, putting him at maybe 8 to 20. If he doesn't ease the injury stuff, or runs a slow 40, I think he might go early to late second. He's a good player, just a matter of seeing whether he needs a lot or a little developing. Probably a good number 2 receiver in this league.

If Marqise Lee is the not one of the top 6 WRs drafted (as your mock draft suggests) I'll retire from this board.

I traded Calvin Johnson in my Dynasty league for a king's ransom that included multiple 2014 picks. I have been following this class extremely close because I plan on drafting 3 WRs out of it. Watkins, Lee, and Evans are the unquestioned top 3 right now (though Matthews is right on their heals).

Quote:That's higher than I expected the response to be. I was thinking somewhere from pick # 20 to pick # 35.   Yet, I respect where you are coming from being that Daryl Smith has been a very good all around LB for a decade,  with good intangibles.

My initial response was pick #20. But I think when you factor in him being arguably a borderline Pro Bowl level talent for nearly a decade (and counting) he deserves to be considered higher. Especially when you look back on past drafts at the players pick 10-15 and the careers they've had.

I have Lee 4th at WR. Behind Davante Adams also.

Didn't read every post - so not sure if it's been said, but  -   the Bills took a safety in the 4th AND in the 5th last year.   so.... Kodiak, you might wanna see if either of those guys is developing before giving them a safety in the first round this time around.

Fair enough. I understand the concerns on Lee, but I've been sold for a while and his injury isn't enough to change my mind.
I hope you guys all appreciate each other's knowledge on this. Every year, I crack the draft threads and immediately see 10 names I've never heard before and some rational discussion on each of them. By the time February rolls around, I'll know everyone in the first 2-3 rounds. By draft time I'll know up to 4 rounds, mostly just from this board.

Draft threads stay generally cool, too, no "you suck" and "Oh, no...YOU suck" posts for the most part (go over to the FSU/Auburn thread and watch the FSU boy continue to embarrass himself).

We don't have much college FB in NE (well, Boston College; UConn may as well be in Michigan) so it's good to read this here as you guys grow up with a greater awareness of CFB than we do. Kodiak does a good job being the centerpiece of it, too. He's not perfect but he gets it all going.

Who's Dennard? A CB from where?

It's not because of the injuries at all. I just don't think he has any traits that one could call plus, except maybe short area quickness. He's just going to be an all around good not great WR to me, maybe in the Stevie Johnson mold that the Jags will face today. Except even a little shorter.

I think Watkins, Evans, and Adams all have superlative traits in some form or another.

He is my favorite corner in the class, and he is from Michigan. Most people have him in the 2-4 range, behind one or more of Gilbert from Oklahoma, Verrett from TCU, or Ifo (I don't bother with his last name lol) from Oregon.

Here is a bunch of his cutups. http://draftbreakdown.com/video/darqueze...tate-2013/

Honestly, scouting DBs is the hardest position for me because they go off camera a lot. All you can really scout every play is their jam at the line (which a lot of corners don't even do in college) and their initial hip swivel, and sometimes their closing speed/ball skills when they are targeted but that gets boring to sit through and wait for them to get targeted so I don't do it a ton. That said, Dennard has the fiercest jam at the line that I have ever seen in college and he would be a PERFECT fit in a Seahawks/Jags physical press defense. They say he has some top speed concerns but from watching a bit of those cutups and just from watching some of his games live I've never seen him get beat deep so I think it might be a Joe Haden situation.

Long story short, I grade him as a top 12 player in this class but I think he will probably go in the 15-20 range.
I wish Dennard was from Michigan. He is from Michigan St. (assuming that was just a typo) and is part of that daunting defense.

Yup. This board is great for that, TBH. Whereas I feel like I have a pretty good grasp on players I've seen a lot (Big Ten players and personal favorites / personal dislikes of mine), there are hundreds of prospects that I've only seen several times. There is a lot of geography covered here fan-base wise which leads to a lot of nice information.

Lol yes of course he's Sparty. Oops.

I disagree. I think Lee has elite YAC ability. His quickness/change of direction is world-class and he has above average strength. With how spread out the NFL is becoming, getting a WR that can make plays is space is huge. Lee is also an above-average leaper. He may only be 6'0/6'1, but he plays 3-4 inches taller because he can quite literally outjump almost anybody.

For those of you that like comparisons, I see Lee as a Greg Jennings/Santonio Holmes cross. In other words, a bigger/stronger DeShaun Jackson.

Aside from that, his work ethic / and character are second to none. Whatever team drafts Lee will not have to worry about the headache we have with Blackmon or the diva mentality some other elite WRs have (Dez Bryant, T.O., Randy Moss, etc.)

Here is a nice write up on Lee from Grantland.
