J-Smooth to the Pride this weekend. Congrats to Jimmy. One ball catching, speed burning, touchdown scoring cat. Can't wait to see the ceremony. Worth the price of admission all by itself!!
Quote:Remember when guys said Bortles would pass Brunell as the best QB in franchise history.

4 trips to the playoffs. Pro Bowls. Pro Bowl MVP. AFC Championship game. 2 pro bowl receivers.

Bortles....ha..
2 AFC Championship games
Quote:I agree that these 2 are at the top, but I'd call it a tie. Both were totally dominant at their positions for multiple seasons. I still remember Jimmy Smith being double-teamed and still being un-stoppable. If not for his off the field issues, he would have easily made the Hall of Fame. In addition, he was always accessible to the fans and appeared to be a genuinely great guy. The way his career ended and subsequent problems with drugs is the saddest story in Jaguars history.
Maybe the saddest, but Blackmon is close

Surprised no mention of Matt Jones.

Here is the thing though.  Neither Fred Nor Tony was labeled a bust and then turned it all around on the field like Jimmy did.   Due to many previous injuries in dallas and a short stint in phili in which he was cut.   He not only fully recovered but is still the best receiver we have had in history.  So though Freddie was electrifying and so was Tony but short lived.

If you account for total body of work in a much harder league where receiver hits was much more common and a lot harder than today's game.  I have to say Jimmy is. But it very close.

Now if ask who is the best rb or o line  Then hands down Freddie and Tony.  But overall despite off the field problems.  To be one of the most electrifying receivers.  In a time where running backs dominated and a much harder game as far as hits for receivers.  In my opinion, it has to go to Jimmy.  Plus in 9 out of 10 years as a Jaguars he had consecutive 1,000 plus receiving yards.

That is unheard of in a much harder hitting game. Not including the 7 franchise records still held today.  And 3 Nfl records which one still splits today which a much easier game for receivers.

He is a legend.  And deserves to be the best ever all time in Jax.  Cause players who suffer from numerous injuries.  End up just a  special teamer.  Then end up cut from a different team.  Do not end up with all that,  unless they are meant for greatness.

This is a Jaguars Legend in own right.  Throws great parties and very down to earth.  Most dedicated fan that is for sure!  Charlie Rocks!  And served our country proud.

I think when asking about the greatest jag, you have to look at what they do off the field as well.. Their character, and work habits.. Now when looking at Jimmys off the field habits would you still look at him in the same like? Dont get me wrong i agree with everything you stated, but im not judging players based on stats...

I don't think that holds any merit. Cause it was a different time and age.  And if ya take away all the players from all teams. Ya lose so many Hall of Famers. Jerry rice used stick um.  The police blotter was through the roof.  The pain level was unbearable.  Everyone was doing stuff.  Just some were targeted more cause in different markets.  Up North they would hide so much stuff.  Just like all the scams back in colleges and academic passes due to talented players.

Just like Blackmon would of followed in Jimmy Footsteps if it wasn't for a different time and age. How many off the field actions affected the fans?  With todays players not wanting to talk to fans and talk junk about them.  Fan reaction and in the spotlight was major at that time.  Jimmy was super kind to all the fans.  And the way some players turn on fans in my book is a worse crime than drug habits.

However, everyone has right to own opinion.   Just in my eyes.  That holds no merit.   And what was done with Blackmon has been the same for years. Cause what used to be acceptable is now marked.  Cause money rather then star fame is today's game and generation.
Tony Boselli is on the Hall of Fame list. So he's number 1.

I think Broussard was the only Jag to successfully catch a Garrard deep Ball.

Ya know, I don't know what the hell Jebediah Clampett here did to deserve so much popularity in Jax all these years, but it's pretty damn embarrassing when I watch the game and they pan to the guy with the same beer belly, the same wife beater, and the same sweaty 90's style Jaguars foam head. Yea. Way to represent, Jacksonville.

Have you ever been to Jacksonville?

I'm surprised no one is mentioning Brunell.  He took us to the AFC Championship game and although his stats aren't as sexy as some of the modern day QB's, he was a true dual-threat QB (at least before he hurt his knee).  Without him, we wouldn't have had the Jimmy Smith/Keenan McCardell dangerous duo.

Because he threw everyone under the bus with saying the Jags should move to London.   And the fans who watched him and loved him in Jax.  Dude turned on city.  And personally Jimmy after saying that belongs in the pride more then Brunell does.
