Quote:If we win a few more, Gus should be coach of the year.   Because they said we were the worst team of all time, and he took the worst team of all time and turned them around and now we've won 3 out of our last 4 games.   Win a few more, and I say Gus should be NFL Coach of the Year.

He's not getting COTY - nor should he - even if they win out, IMO. Thats going to either Chip Kelly or Andy Reid.

Should Ron Rivera be in the conversation?

Not sure.

The Panthers have been expected to start to make this ascent for a while now.

Not sure reaching their potential finally, should = a COTY award.

And the same cant be said about the Eagles and the Chiefs? Disregard the fact that the chiefs had the worst record in the league, how many probowl players did they have on their roster last years? As if talent is lacking on both sides of the ball in Philly either ...

New regimes is different than the situation in Carolina. Its the same coach there and he was expected to win by now.

It wont go to Chip.  Though they are putting together a nice win streak, their season has been too inconsistent thus far.  It'll go to Andy Reid or Pete Carroll.

It shouldn't go to Pete Carroll. What exactly is he doing so great this year compared to last year? They were good last year and were expected to continue that level of play or even slightly improve this season.
Reid got bailed out by his D against some bad teams like Houston and Buffalo. They havent won in a month and are now 1-3 in their division. Look like a classic one and done phony.

They need an upgrade at QB. ...again.
Its nice to see improvement even if its against a softer schedule.. the alternative is we play like we did the first 8 games against lesser opponents and don't shown improvement.
Quote:Yep.   Remember when it seemed like we'd never score two touchdowns in a game?

I heard today that the Jags scored in every trip to the redzone against the brownies.

THATS HUGE!

While he won't get voted the NFL Coach of the Year because the team has been the most successful NFL Franchise since 2001,  a solid case can be made that Bill Belichick is getting more out of the Patriots roster this season than any coach is getting out of their respect roster.  With all of the injuries the Patriots have suffered this season,  their 9-3 record is a tremendous accomplishment for Bill Belichick and his staff.
Quote:The first 8 games we played the majority of top teams. So made us look worse then we actually are.

So you are saying we're actually average! Unbelievable!

QB is not their problem. They've been scoring enough to win. What has hurt them is the rapid reduction of defensive pressure. They are no longer getting the sacks and hurries they were getting earlier. Some of that is due to injuries. Some is due to opposing teams figuring some stuff out.

Also, two of their loses are to the team that will probably be the #1 seed in the AFC.

If you look at the first half of their schedule, it was not much different from the second half of our schedule. Buffalo, Cleveland, Tennessee, Houston. And the Chiefs had some close ones with those teams. They were outplayed by Buffalo but the Bills had an UDFA at QB and he had two killer INT's, one returned for a TD. Without looking, I'd say they probably have the easiest SoS in the league.

Good points there, D6, and yes, BB should receive some votes for the award. His omission was an oversight on my part.

I disagree. QB is still an issue for them. I don't think that team has a lot of faith in Alex Smith being able to put the team on his back and win games if it would be necessary. They get down by more than a possession or 2 and its over. QB like Alex Smith can beat the weaker teams in this league, but aren't going to take you very far when you play the top teams.

While I agree he is getting alot of the roster, I would counter with a few points.

He put the roster together.

He still has one of the top 5 quarterbacks of all time.

And he has had the benefit (as he has had most years) of playing in probably weakest division in football.

The AFC East certainly isn't close to being the best division in football.   Relatively speaking,  there's no question the Patriots get a break in being the AFC East,  compared to some other division.    On the other side of the coin,  the Patriots beat the Saints and Broncos,  two of the top teams in the NFL.

  I agree regarding Tom Brady.

As for putting the Patriots roster together though, I view that as Belichick as the key football personnel decision maker in the organization,  not as the Head Coach.   Of course this is a subjective way of looking at it.   I understand why one would lump the two roles together,  even though I separate them.

Looking at the players the Patriots lost for the remainder of the season and the players that came back but were out for many weeks,   I truly believe that no other HC currently in the NFL would have the Patriots at better than 7-5.
Great to see excitement. Try to condition that with reality. We already have secured our sixth-consecutive NON-winning season.

We're winning in garbage time against teams with losing records.

This simply means our lousy, unmotivated players are fighting to prevent their own demise. The lower the draft pick the less chance there is a lousy player is going to face roster competition. Some are simply playing well to use it as an audition for their new team next year. We see this farcial resurgence each and every year on losing football teams.

Naturally, this false sense of security in the heads of Gene Smith's scouting and PR people still within the franchise and currently being seeded by his shill pen pals will lead to yet another year of "needs" drafting in which the only need considered is to avoid upsetting the frail ego of said player(s).

The only improvement that matters is that which manifests itself prior to the beginning of the season.
