In 2003 the Jaguars sucked through the first 8 games of the season going 1-7 before finishing strong in the last 8 games; 4-4 with a capable defense. Now we've sucked through the first 8 games as well but we've improved now and have a real chance of finishing strong as well. Both 2003 had a new head coach and a new GM as well as a bit of a QB controversy. I'm not sure what this all means though.

Well I certainly hope it doesn't mean 1 playoff win over the next decade.

Was about to post something similar.

You know its pretty bad around here when you start looking back favorably at the Jack Del Rio era. Wallbash

...and its not all that similar anyway....even Jack's 2003 team beat an actual good team that season with the victory over the Colts. This years Jags team merely got outsucked by 2 sucky teams for its 2 wins.

I hope this turns out to be case. Forget the draft.  This team needs to form a habit of winning.

You're a weird fan. "forget the draft"?? How pray tell do you expect them to acquire the necessary talent so they can actually execute this "habit of winning" you talk about?.....lol, its as if you expect it to happen via osmosis or something. You have better odds of getting those difference maker type talent at the top of the draft.

Yeah. That was the year that we won a bunch of games near the end when we were on track to get Larry Fitzgerald in the 2004 draft. By winning those games, we basically traded Fitzgerald for Reggie Williams. I mentioned this in an earlier thread.
I wonder which future Hall Of Famer the Jags will miss out on because "draft position doesn't matter".

Do you realize how many they have passed just based on the fact of them taking the wrong person, regardless of their position in the draft?

Should we start a list?

Exactly, just because u have the first pick dont mean jack if u dont hit on it. Doesnt matter where u pick as long as u hit on it

I could say the same about you because I have never seen a true fan wish for his team too lose.

The draft will come in May.  Until that day, I want to see this team play their hearts out.  If wins come so be it because it's called improvement.  Caldwell and Bradley preached getting better so I don't think anyone should be upset about that plan coming to fruition.

Just off the top of my head.

Byron Leftwhich - Terrell Suggs

Reggie Williams - Big Ben

Alualu - JPP, Earl Thomas

Gabbert - JJ Watt

This team has passed on so many great players it is sad.

Bingo.  For every dominant player that has come out of the top 10 group there is a "can't miss" bust.  I can't remember the last time a good team like Pittsburgh , New England,  and New Orleans has picked in the top 10 but they have been good for a very long time.  It all comes down to a QB and you don't need a top 10 selection to find a good one.

Yeah, if we win our young players are getting better and we wont be as far off as we thought we were. If we contnue to lose every game, most likely our players arent getting much better. I would rather improvement from our young players and wins and pick the right guy what ever slot we are in than are young players not improving and taking a game managing QB that may or may not pan out. Even if Teddy turns out good i would rather all our other players improved and take a differ qb because im sure he wont be the only good qb and maybe not even the best out of this class

Justin Blackmon- Any decent player in that draft that can stop drinking and doing drugs. Someone who can stay on the field

Matt Jones- See Above

Eugene Monroe- Raji

Harvey- Just a complete disaster pick.  He cost a ton of picks and was a total bust

Gabbert- Horrible.  He was a 1st and 2nd round pick.  He maybe the worst starting QB in the history of the NFL.

Joeckle- May end up being the best pick.  He struggled early but seem to really improve his last few weeks playing.  Hopefully comes back stronger next season.

So you're going to judge the talent of one player just because of personal/ off the field issues? Justin Blackmon has the potential to very well be the best player we have ever drafted since Fred Taylor. Reminds me of all the ignoramuses during the offseason and into the 1st half of this year that wanted to trade Blackmon and Poz. Typical Gene Smith Philosophy.

Wow.  All the talent in the world means nothing if you throw it away.

He had a DUI in College

He had a DUI just after the draft

He got suspended 4 games for a violation

He just got suspended for the rest of the season until or if Goodell decides to reinstate him.

If he messes up again and with his history it's likely, he may be banned forever.

Yes I would of rather taken someone else aside from Blackmon.  In less than 2 years he has 3 NFL strikes against him.  He has major problems.

Forgot about this one.

Who did we pass?

Aaron Rodgers.  OUCH
Not really.  Coughlin actually left some talent behind for the next regime.  Gene Smith left a barren wasteland.

Yep, Taylor, Smith, Henderson, Stroud, Brunell, Garrard, Meester, Naeole, Darius.....wasn't a bad nucleus. Just needed some pieces added/ some changed. I think Coughlin would have turned that team around to loftier heights than JDR reached had TC not gotten fired.
