JAMEIS IN 2015

Quote:How would they even be able to pull that off??They'd probably get better (too good to get the #1 draft spot) merely by the additions from the upcoming offseason.

Trade our 2014 picks and allow Cecil to hang out with Blackmon.  Both WRs get suspended in 2014 and come back strong in 2015.
.500 year 3 & perennial playoffs year 4. Don't care about next season as long as Teddy looks good and we're not 0-16
... I say we draft Teddy in 2014, Jameis in 2015, then Penn States Hackenburg in 2016  --- we ultimately build the QB empire here in Jax preventing other teams from getting better.

Quote:Irvin was already there by time of Aikmans drafting, just like Shorts/ Blackmon are already here.....

The Cowboys won 11 reg season games and a playoff game only 2 seasons after finishing 1-15. I'd say thats a quick fix. Then won the SB the following 2 seasons.

You excluded the fact that the Cowboys traded Hershell for these picks ....
  • Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1990 (21) (traded this pick along with pick (81) for pick (17) from Pittsburgh to draft Emmitt Smith)
  • Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1990 (47) (<a class="" href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Wright_(football_player)' title="Alexander Wright (football player)">Alexander Wright</a>)
  • Minnesota's 6th round pick in 1990 (158) (traded to New Orleans, who drafted James Williams)
  • Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1991 (conditional) - (12) (Alvin Harper)
  • Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1991 (conditional) - (38) (Dixon Edwards)
  • Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1992 (conditional) - (37) (Darren Woodson)
  • Minnesota's 3rd round pick in 1992 (conditional) - (71) (traded to New England, who drafted Kevin Turner)
  • Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1993 (conditional) - (13) (traded to Philadelphia Eagles, and then to the Houston Oilers, who drafted Brad Hopkins)[1]

Other than Emmitt, I never realized how little that Herchel Walker deal actually paid off for the Cowboys....
You should TOTALLY stop tanking this week! Big Grin

I just realized that the dang Steelers had pick #17 and traded down with the Cowboys to obtain #21 (Eric Green) .. and some dude at pick #81 that I never heard of.....

bottom line, cowboys got emmit / steelers got a decent TE  Wallbash

Oh boy, 2 players in the last 30 years. Whoooppeeeeee! That's great odds.

It is when you consider that the QB expected to go first in this years draft is being compared favorably to the talent level of QB like that and Luck.

I'll take a horrible record this season, if the benefits are the success that those level QB bring for the next decade
Quote:I've read in several places that Jameis Winston is a sure-fire #1 pick and bigger, faster, smarter, stronger-armed than Teddy Bridgewater.

Maybe Winston isn't that good. But that argument is not under consideration here. Assume for this argument that he is. Wouldn't the Jags be better off long-term getting the #1 pick in 2015 and using it on Winston? Wouldn't Carolina have been better off not drafting Cam Newton and getting Andrew Luck in 2012?

Absolutely not! Do you really want to pass on a QB in this draft of the caliber of Bridgewater, Mariota, or Manziel for the hope that Winston is available in 2015? What if he gets injured? What if he is busted? What if he decides to play another sport? You don't pass on a bird in the hand for 2 in the bush.

That's not how odds work.

Anyway this team has pretty much hit rock bottom.  I don't see this team being in position to draft Winston next year (even if he does declare).  Picking Geno Smith last year would have been a mistake -- even though he'd have made this team better.  The idea is to pick a QB who will be franchise caliber.  That should help make this team competitive.  We'll start winning games once we're capable of it.

Get your franchise QB and the rest is easy street. Even Caldwell has said as much.

Jags need Black Jesus to lead us to the promised land.  WINston or BUST!

Hypothetically,

We pass on Teddy because Famous Jameis is such an amazing prospect. So we suck again next year.

But it's okay because we will get Winston in 2015. Until...

BAM! Another young stud steps up and is the NEXT! GREAT! QB,

Then, all of a sudden, Jameis doesn't look as shiny. So we suck again in an effort to get this guy.

Then yet another young guy steps up....

Clockwork logic.
Quote:The OP assumes that the Jaguars are trying to lose and will continue to lose in order to gain a better draft spot when I would argue that the Jaguars

simply suck.
This pretty much sums it up...

We have a lot of dumb fans.
Idiotic logic, You know what your getting with Bridgewater you still don't quite know with Winston.
The fact is he is 8 games in his first year starting with the most talented team in the country, yes more talented than bama and oregon. Every facet of the game fsu dominants in.

Thats not the case here...

Quote:That was the thought last season.

Not from anyone who knew what was going on. With Blaine Gabbert as your QB the ceiling is 3-13. Next year we will have Teddy and a serviceable cast around him. I bet we have a winning record.
