That's the key point.   The coaches know all about Stanzi.   They see him in practices and in meetings.   They have all the available film of his entire career including college.

Some fans just want to see for themselves.   That is pointless.   We pay coaches to do that.

If they want to develop Stanzi, they will do it in the offseason.
My name is enigma and I endorse this message.

Quote:There would be no difference. There is a reason he didn't even play for the Chiefs last year.

I don't buy into this line of thinking completely but if this is the case Stanzi should be starting as soon as he knows the offense. He's got a chance to be here next year, Henne and Gabbert don't. Gabbert and Henne both should have zero chance of being on the Jaguars 2014 roster. Stanzi at least has a slight chance.
Stanzi isn't an enigma.  He's not even an afterthought.

The poster above who says the coaches get paid to evaluate the players and determine who deserves playing time.  If he was wowing them in practice and outplaying two marginal players ahead of him on the depth chart, he'd see more reps in practice and possibly playing time. He's seen neither.

It wouldn't surprise me at some point to see them release him (again) to clear a roster spot now that Gabbert is back and healthy enough to hold a clipboard.

I've always wondered why people think backups can come in and magically play better then the supposed starter. There is a reason they are backups. Lol.

The backup QB is usually the most popular player on the roster for teams that don't have franchise QBs, unless the backup is Blaine Gabbert, in which case you've got to go 3 deep, or scour the practice squad.

Since you brought up the PS. I wonder what happened to the Matt Scott hype train.

ive said this before.... gabbert has fooled at least 2 coaching staffs with his practice ethics.... he looked better than henne two years in a row in PRACTICE, but when the bullets are live and the stakes are real on sunday, im not sure there are many left who will argue gabbert is better than henne.... some guys are work out warriors and the jags have been good at finding those guys lately with people like jennings, austin lane, and gabbert... not saying stanzi has got to be better than henne or gabbert, but it really couldnt hurt to see what he does in a real game.

After watching this team on the field I don't have too much confidence in the coach evaulations.

Some guys just have it.  Some guys look bad in practice and perform well in game time.  WE suck at QB regardless so we might as well see what every QB on the roster has

Hmmm.  I remember a certain guy who never had a chance to prove himself and did not get a chance until the starting QB got hurt.  He went on to win a couple of sb's.

The players name?  Tom Brady

1 outta the thousands of backups who have come through the league.... not good odds.... players like brady and arron rodgers sat behind good(great in farves case) qb's who they tought them the game and the system they played in... when you compare that to stanzi's situation, they are hardly comparable other than the fact they are unproven backups.

The point is:  Why not?

We are already getting blown out every game.  What difference does it make if we lose by 20 or 30.  Bottom line is this whole team is garbage.  Drastic change is needed so my point is why not?  Let him play and see how he does.  It cannot get worse
Stanzi is DC's project. What you do with a project is sit him and let him learn so when he is ready he is able to preform. He is along the same lines that BG was. You do not put a project QB in a system that isnt performing at an adequate level. JDR threw BG into a situation that was not helpfull for him and we see the results. Stanzi even if he is better then what you got he is not ready and he will sit untill he is ready.

Exactly.

People act like we are going to mess up Gabbert and Henne's development if we put Stanzi in.

This thing is a complete dumpster fire, who gives a poo if Stanzi gets in? Whats the worst thats gonna happen? We get blown out?

No you wont mess up henne or BG development but you could mess up Stanzi development by putting him out there to get killed ala BG his rookie season.

Again, who gives a poo? He will likely be gone by the time we draft our QB next year anyway.
Henne is a career backup who will be gone at the end of the season, Gabbert will likely be out the NFL in a year or two, why not let Scott/Stanzi or w/e journeyman off the street play some ball.

I think you're dead on.

Perhaps there's a reason they're hanging on to Stanzi, but the odds are not in his favor of actually panning out as a viable option.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing him, just to see things get spiced up a little.
