1. Bama

2. Ohio St

3. Clemson

4. Wash

5. Michigan

6. Wisconsin

7. Penn St

8. Colorado

9. Oklahoma

10. Okie St

No surprises.  Michigan dropped from 3 to 5.  And Colorado moved up to 8 from 9.  You'd have to think at this point Bama and Ohio St are locks.  Have a hard time believing Ohio St would drop all the way from 2 to 5 no matter what happens next weekend.  They have a better record and harder schedule than any of the other Big10 contenders.  And Clemson and Washington appear to be locks if they win their respective title games.

Only real question is if Clemson or Washington loses, who would take their place. Looking at the standings, you'd think Michigan is the obvious choice. Especially since they have wins over the 3 teams directly behind them.  But if Penn St wins title, could you take two Big10 East teams but not the team that won the Big10 East as well as title game?  Conference championship would really mean nothing in the eyes of the committee.

And I think Colorado has an outside shot of making it... especially if Penn St wins Big10.  On talk radio I kept hearing about whether Big 10 deserves two teams or, assuming Penn St wins title game, if they belong over Ohio St.  But I would argue that Colorado, if they win Pac12, should get in over Penn St.  Same record, harder strength of schedule, and the only common opponent is Michigan... which were in back to back weekends believe it or not.  Penn St lost by 40.  Colorado was beating Michigan at the Big House in the 3rd quarter but then their starting QB got hurt and it went downhill from there.  Penn St's best win is better than Colorado's but aside from that it seems like across the board Colorado has a better resume.  In this scenario, Buffs would instantly jump Wisconsin and Washington.  I think they deserve to be in over Penn St.  And the only question is would the committee move Colorado over Michigan, a team they lost to.  But again, it was a very close game up until CU lost their QB.  And CU is playing well while Michigan is starting to go in the wrong direction.

I still don't understand how OSU missed out on the BTCG with only one loss. Shame on the Big 10 for making them watch Penn State on TV this weekend.

Despite that anomaly, ESPN.com reported OSU is a "playoff wild card" after the Buckeyes beat Michigan.

^Penn State has been "on a roll" lately.

They did beat the Buckeyes, so there's that. But, no one in the country thinks PSU is better than Ohio State right now. If they were to play again, most would have the Buckeyes favored to win.

How about Wisconsin? Their only losses were close games against Ohio State and Michigan. Wisconsin has been good this year, and I knew they would end up in the Big10 Title game.

I actually think that not making the Title game ended up benefitting the Buckeyes. As it stands now, Ohio State will get in the playoffs (99% sure they will).

If the Buckeyes had to play in the Championship game against Wisconsin, Ohio State would've certainly HAD to win that game to advance to the playoffs. Wisconsin took them to overtime and nearly beat the Buckeyes. It wouldn't have surprised me if Wisconsin beat them in a re-match game.

If the Buckeyes were to have lost against Wisconsin, playoffs may have been gone for them.

Ohio State lucked out.
Penn State is on a roll....to say that Ohio State would definitely beat them right now is a bit of a stretch.  Penn State played them tough that night and I think Ohio State would get the exact same thing if they played again.

JW the only reason you're questioning why they aren't in the championship is because it's your team.  If it wasn't you wouldn't care.

Edit:  One of your many teams.

You have to be kidding me. Shame on the Big 10? It isnt The Bucknuts fault that they lost a game on their side of the conference? What the what?

It is pretty self explanatory if you look at the standings. Both are 8-1 in conference, and Penn State, obviously, has the head to head.
And LOL at the Big 10 for putting Ohio State above Penn State on their website for conference standings. The whole thing is a joke.

If if's and but's were candy and nuts (maybe a bucknut) it'd be Christmas every day.

"They did beat the Buckeyes so there's that" ??? Are you kidding me? That that, is all they need!!!! They beat Ohio St., if they win the conference title game and are left out, that is a major problem. It doesn't matter what people think. That is a pointless argument, it was won on the field. Period.

Guess what, I think Michigan is better than Ohio St. They should be in the playoff over Ohio St. See the logic there? No, me neither, but that is what you are rolling with here.

The system, as it sits with the most recent rankings released last night, is a joke. It is all based on opinions and bias. When polls and the human element exists, there is always a problem. It has to be, simply, based on records and head to heads, like the NFL.

Not just a stretch to say that Ohio State would definitely beat them right now, it is completely ridiculous. Ohio St. won a game they never should have in the Michigan game. It took several calls and no calls, and blunders on the part of Michigan.

Wow,, is that for real? That is embarrassing.

Anyway, I think these Conference Championship are a joke now that there is a playoff format for the national title.

The divisions (East, West, etc..) are what is messing this thing up. One side of a conference can house 2 or even 3 of the best teams in the country. But, only 1 gets to make it to the CCG. The other side of the conference can be extremely weak in national rankings, but 1 of those teams make it to the CCG.

They have to make some sort of change. Either:

- Do away with conference divisions

- Do away with conference championship games

- Increase the playoff field to at least 8 (where conference championship games matter,, and 2 or 3 at large bids for top teams in the country that didn't happen to make it to the CCG for whatever reason)

Seriously, what does Bama have to benefit from playing in the SEC CG? They are going to be in the playoffs regardless. Now, they have to play an extra game, and hope they don't get any key injuries before the playoffs.

Ohio State doesn't have to play in any CCG, and they're going to be in the playoffs (should be). They're in a better spot than Bama now.

This whole thing is a mess.

Ohio St has a better record against a harder schedule than Penn St though.  You say Penn St won on the field, but why penalize Ohio St for their one loss and ignore Penn St's two losses?  Why cherry pick which results on the field matter and which one's dont.
^

Penn State beat Ohio State

Michigan beat Penn State (badly)

Ohio State beat Michigan

It's a mess.

Okay.

What if Wisconsin wins the Big10CG ?

(I think Wisconsin will win that one).

Wisconsin lost to both Ohio State and Michigan. It was proved on the field.

Then what?
UCF, that is absolutely not true at all. And there was no reason to add "one of your many teams" because you know I only root for two in college football.

Trav, I was thinking about the year (2011?) when the Big 12 had three Top 10 teams in its South division. The conference said its South representative in the CCG would be the one ranked highest in the FBS standings. Granted it was before a CFP committee was formed but the fact they chose a Top 25 poll as the three-way tiebreaker tells me the Big 10 is not obligated to strictly choose the team with the best conference record. They could have picked Ohio State based on FBS rankings like the Big 12 did, but chose not to. So yes, it is a shame on Jim Delany and his staff in Chicago.

What in the world...

Welcome back, JW.
What don't you understand Scarecrow?

All of it.

Why would Penn State not be in the B1G championship game? Same conference record and they have the head to head tiebreaker against OSU.
It was clearly defined before the season began who would be in the Big 10 championship game.  Your team got beat, suck it up.

Yes if OSU wanted in the B1G championship game they shouldn't have lost to PSU.
Looks to me like the committee is trying to set up a possible rematch with Ohio State and Michigan by keeping Michigan in the top 5.
