That he didn't test his value properly and he seemed to rush into a deal when there was no reason to.

Monroe has been awful for them so far.

The more I consider this, the more I don't think the two trades can really be compared to one another. Yes, they're both Left Tackles, but McKinnie is a lot closer to the end of his career than he is to the beginning and Monroe may just be coming into his prime.
Baltimore spent Fourth and Fifth Round Selections to see if Monroe could be their guy for the future since they will need to sign him in the offseason if they want him to stick around. Miami traded for McKinnie with a conditional late round pick because they simply need help right now before they get their QB killed.

Quote:Yep....or had we actually waited until, you know.....closer to the actual trade deadline rather than jumping at one of if not the first offers....
Remember, since Monroe was in the last year of his contract, every passing game decreased his trade value. Also, he wasn't playing at a spectacular level when he was traded.
Waiting a while might not have worked in the Jags favour.

So don't you think it was a mistake that Caldwell wasn't even shopping him around and the trade wasn't even his idea??? Listen, I'm not sitting hear calling for Caldwell's head, but do I think he made a mistake in the way he traded Monroe and how he handled it? Yes, I do.

Yep, the situation was mismanaged.
As what also appears to be the current situations with some of our veteran players - who clearly should be being openly shopped right now, but Caldwell had to be all nicey-nice and "assure" players like POz , and MoJo that they aren't going anywhere......thats just great....
Caldwell indeed should be giving Jags fans pause right now with his mismanagement of opportunity.

Quote:What we know. Caldwell was not shopping Monroe. Baltimore called him. He said the offer was fair. He said it happened quickly. I'm not sure how much shopping he did.
My guess is that all the teams interested in trading for a LT called the Jags and he took the best offer and probably contacted other teams to make sure got the best offer. It's not rocket science. He got what he thought was the best offer and traded him when he thought he'd get the best value. And if there was some other team interested in trading for Monroe for a higher price, exactly why didn't they call the Jags and make the offer? A team would have to be in a very specific set of circumstances to trade a 3rd rounder for an LT who is generally seen as average. And most importantly, they would be in a position where they need a starter to play right away, and where an average player would be an upgrade. They'd be pretty desperate. Where was the call?

I'm saying we don't know, because no one has confirmed anything regarding other trade offers. Nor will they. It's all been "rumours".
Maybe he didn't get the best deal, maybe he did. Pretty sure I'll never know. To some of us, though, it will become fact.

Who freaking cares?? We got two picks out of a deal where a guy was going to walk at the end of the season. Get over it and stop complaining. I swear some people do nothing but criticize.

But that isn't what we were told. He wasn't shopping him and it didn't happen until Baltimore called. He wasn't even thinking of trading him. Those are his words. He didn't trade him when he thought he would get the best value because he wasn't even considering it until Baltimore called. You're right, its not rocket science. Hence why I'm questioning how it was done.
Why would teams call if they didn't know we were wanting to trade him? Do they, sure, but you aren't guaranteeing the largest number of teams when you don't make it known that you are willing to trade him. If I'm selling something at an auction, do I want 1 person to be there or 32? Does it mean all 32 will be interested? No, but does it increase my chances of getting the most I can for what I'm selling vs. the 1? Yes. Maybe I go to the auction and am wearing a piece of jewelry. It isn't for sale, but someone comes up to me and is interested in purchasing it. How do I know I'm getting the best offer possible? Why aren't others asking if my jewelry is for sale? Well, maybe because I didn't tell them. Is any of this sinking in?

What I can do is use reasoning based on the facts we do have. We know he wasn't planning on trading him, we know it wasn't his idea and we know the deal came together very quickly. I'm sorry, but that doesn't raise some red flags based on what is known?

Who cares? I do. We are 0-7, have issues all over the line and traded away our LT and possibly our best trade bait which seemed rushed and mismanaged. That should bother any Jag fan. Was a 4th and 5th his market value? We won't ever know because Caldwell made a deal so quickly with a team he had a relationship with. That concerns me.

Valid questions and all, but while we're speculating, how about this scenario:
The person interested in your jewelry gives you a firm price for it. You say, "Cool," and then yell out, "This guy will give me 500 bucks for my ring. It's a great ring, so who wants to give me 600?" There are no takers. You go back to the guy and say, "OK, we have a deal." Original guy says, "Well, since no one was interested, I'll give you 300 bucks."
That's the chance you run when you make things public.
Again, we can only speculate on whether or not Caldwell got the best deal. Personally, I'm just glad we got something, because Monroe's value was decreasing with each passing week.

A good point. "They" don't want to recognize it though.

Haha. I suggest you guys send Caldwell this groundbreaking information about how to get the best offer by entertaining multiple offers. You could save the franchise.
