Quote:Start by looking at who will be available in FA. Then consider how much you may have to overpay to bring him here. By the end of the day you may end up with a lesser LB at around the same salary.

The right way to do it would be thru the draft. But as you said its hard to find good LBs in the later rounds. It may take a earlier pick.

I agree...so u still have 2 routes: 1. Draft a lb in the 2nd or 3rd and hopefully pick up a josh Evans type player in the 6th or 7th and spend about what? 500k( Evans is about 450k cap hit this year)on the 6th and 1 mil ( cyp hits 937 k on cap cause of 4 mil in dead money) and some change on the 2nd and have plenty of room to do something in fa if we need giving us 3 players for the price of poz or 2. We pick another fa for 5-7 mil( still much less than poz) and use the draft pick the same way we would in option 1.... Both those sound better IMO than keeping poz for the rest of the 8.5 this year and 10 next.

I have to just shake my head in disbelief   with all the people claiming that no threads existed saying that Blackmon should be traded, when in fact there are multiple users on here who saw those very same threads saying that we should trade Blackmon and that he was a risk. The hypocrisy of some of the people on here never ceases to amaze me.

I have to just chime in and say that I do definitely remember 3 or 4 posters suggesting we trade Blackmon.  A couple of them may have been stirring the proverbial pot, but there were a few nonetheless.

I know I saw them... People prolly didnt waste their time reading which I honestly can't fault them for ... But i sure did lol
Yes there were multiple threads and pages of at least 15 per topic. And him called every thing under the sun.
I'll own up. One dui away from losing a year scared me. But the reward certainly seems worth the risk, especialy  after watching his last 2 games.  His preformance has changed my mind.

Quote:Actually, nobody that I saw said we should trade Blackmon, and to be honest, I'd trade Poz in a heartbeat if we could get a decent return
It was me who said to trade Blackman. Well actually I said get rid of him! And that was because he had run his big fat mouth again when he couldn't even play because of his big fat mouth. I don't like it when a team member has no regard for the team and does stupid things to hurt the team just to satisfy some ego trip. With that being said...Blackmon must have seen my post and is trying to get his S**t together, but I'm still not a100%. Is he good? Yes he is! Now as far as beating anyone this season goes...I think that would be a big mistake! I think we should just tank all the way out...I could care less about winning even one game at this point in order to preserve that all important #1 pick Teddy Bridgewater!!!
I think Poz's only crime is getting paid to much. He is our best LB and plays decent enough in coverage that with a good pass rush around him he could excel IMO. He's not worth his contract so the negativity there seems to be applied to his on field play. I just wish he would take a pay cut for the good of the team.

Also there were posters who wanted to trade or cut blackmon after his suspension. They will never own up to it but i argued with them myself. My stand was if he gets the year long one then we should consider moving him.

Edit: i see a couple poster have called their own number out. Kudos to those who own up. may people wanted Blackmon gone out of anger.

This team has been starved for a good WR.  No, I would not be nor would have been an advocate to trade him.

Poz on the other hand....he'll be 30 this next season and his base salary jumps to $7.5m, giving him a $9.5m cap figure ($4m unamortized).  Unfortunately, he would not be ideal for the long term plan of this team.  If the team were to feel that LaRoy Renolds, or some other young LB, could step in and develop, I would be an advocate to trade Poz today for anyone offering a draft pick.  Aside from the young LBs on the roster if you don't believe there is a worthy one, the team could sign a good young LB in free agency at or below Paul's salary savings that will be more of a fit for the long term plan.
