Quote:Alright TMD follow me here.
You made a thread saying that MJD is done. Now how do you suppose Miami would perceive his trade value if he's so clearly done, but Miller is "like using a pick on a RB"?
Oh, I dunno, it would be like being on a Cleveland message board in September and someone posting a thread about "Trent Richardson is garbage", gee,,,,,why did Indy trade a first round pick for him then....
I know this is hard for some of you to understand, but teams aren't reading these message boards for their info and can & do make moves independent of what is posted there.
What else would we have to offer to get Miami to trade away their RB for a guy who is on the last year of his second contract?
Quote:How is Miami in "Win now" mode?
Quote:Why would Miami do this? They arent in a "win now" mode enough right now to pull this trade off.
They would give up their number one running back who could end up being pretty good for a guy who has a contract thats expiring. While it would be great for the Jags, Miami wouldnt agree with it.
You don't make the kind of free agent acquisitions that Miami made in the offseason without being in "win now" mode...

I know teams don't read the message boards, but they do review film of guys they're interested in and if he's so clearly done what do you think Miami would perceive his trade value as?

Sure you do.
Do you really see Miami being back on the decline after a couple of years? It's not as if their best players are getting too old. They're not in 'win now' mode. They're in 'rebuild done' mode if anything.

If Richardson is so clearly garbage, why did Indy perceive his trade value as a #1?
If Miami is starting to sour on Miller, which could be a possibility based on their expectation for him and how he's produced so far, then I could see them taking a flier on a player like MoJo and banking on new scenery/ better team giving him a shot in the arm.

It wouldn't shock me if they were in decline in a few years....I'm not a fan of Tannehill, and some of their FA moves have been suspect.

Or...you could continually miss my point.
No one's going to trade for MJD.

Exactly.
GMs look at game films.
If the trade deadline were later in the season, and a serious contender suffered some sort of devastating injury at RB, I still don't think they'd make a move for MJD unless he showed more.

Tannehill may not be great, but I think he's good enough to lead the Dolphins for a while.

While I believe there's urgency in Miami to win this season, if they thought an 8th year RB was the preferred option, they likely would have made a concerted effort to sign then UFA Reggie Bush. Especially when considering Bush's production for them in his 2 seasons with the Dolphins.

I'd also think they would have went harder after Jake Long.

Maybe they figured Bush wanted top 5 NFL money in a long term deal - and had money allocated for the free agents they went after and signed.
MoJo after this season won't be able to command that kind of coin at his age.

Then why would any team trade for him, even if it were for a disappointment of a RB?

While the LT position is a major concern for the Dolphins, I think G.M. Jeff Ireland made the right call regarding not offering Jake Long what the St. Louis Rams were willing to offer him. Long's best NFL days are likely in the past.
Having said that, the LT position in particular and their Offensive Line collectively is the Dolphins weakest link. It likely will cost them a playoff spot unless something changes substantially.

because at this point they won't have to pay large money long term, and potentially get more production than what Miller has been giving them so far- Caldwell orchestrated the last deal to be where we pay most of he remaining salary, same could happen here.

Interesting given last week's developments.....
another team that I'll bet Caldwell never managed to contact to try and build up a market for Monroe....

Considering all of the salary cap space the Dolphins had and the non- lucrative contract that Reggie Bush signed with the Lions, the Dolphins could have easily paid Bush enough to keep him in South Florida. They made the decision to go with youth. I would be shocked if they felt that the MJD would be the type of option that they would give up a 2nd year RB with upside for.

See, I might buy this if this were pre-injury MJD.
But he hasn't been close to the same guy he was last year.
If any team is interested in him, they will wait for him to hit free agency-and probably wait to sign him late in the process.
